The Union Parliament consists of two houses: the Lok Sabha, which is the house of people elected by secret ballot; and the Rajya Sabha, which is the council of states. The Lok Sabha is presided over by a Speaker who is elected, while the Rajya Sabha has an ex-officio chairman who is the Vice-President of India.
