1. Boudhanath Stupa
Boudha, also known as Boudhanath, Khasti Chaitya and Khasa Chaitya is a stupa in
Kathmandu, Nepal. Boudhanath is a UNESCO World Heritage site which serves as a
focal point for Tibetan
Buddhism in Nepal. It is a sacred
pilgrimage site for Buddhists
and a place of deep spiritual
significance.
The stupa is an imposing
structure with a massive
mandala, or circular base,
topped by a pyramid style tier
and a central spire. The white
dome symbolizes the earth
while the mandala represents
the universe. One of the
distinctive features of
Boudhanath is the watchful eyes
painted on all four sides of the
main tower. These "Buddha
eyes" are a symbol of wisdom,
compassion, and awareness,
watching over the valley.
The stupa is surrounded by a
circular market and a series of
prayer wheels, which pilgrims and visitors alike often circumambulate while spinning
the prayer wheels in a clockwise direction, as per Buddhist tradition. The area
around Boudhanath is a vibrant cultural and social hub, with numerous monasteries,
shops, and restaurants catering to locals and tourists alike. The atmosphere is
enriched by the sound of prayer chants and the fragrance of incense.
Boudhanath suffered damage during the earthquake in 2015, but extensive
reconstruction efforts have restored its magnificence. The restoration reflects the

2. Swayambhunath Stupa
Swayambhunath stupa also know as the ‘monkey temple’ is a UNESCO world
heritage site located atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. The iconic stupa is
the oldest and most significant religious sites in Nepal, with a history dating back
over 2,500 years.
Swayambhunath is a sacred Buddhist site, and its name translates to ‘self-translate
one’. It holds immense religious importance for both Buddhists and Hindus. The
stupa is a hemispherical structure adorned with a spire and a pinnacle, featuring the
watchful eyes of Buddha painted on each side of the main tower. The eyes are often
referred to as the "eyes of wisdom" and are a distinctive symbol of Swayambhunath.
The stupa is surrounded by various shrines, stupas, and statues, creating a complex
of religious monuments. Pilgrims and visitors can explore the prayer wheels,
sculptures, and other religious artifacts in the vicinity.

3. Kathmandu Durbar Square

conquered in 1769. Today,

Department of Nepal and
Bhaktapur Municipality.

windows, doors, and struts.
The 55-Window Palace,
Vatsala Temple, and
Nyatapola Temple are
among the prominent
structures that showcase the

Newars.
One of the tallest pagoda-

Nyatapola Temple
dominates the skyline of
Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
Each tier of the temple is

6. Pashupatinath Temple

height of 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) above sea level. Trekking to Everest Base Camp

Heritage Site and holds immense significance as the birthplace of Siddhartha
Gautama, who later became known as Lord Buddha. This pilgrimage site draws
travelers, historians, and spiritual seekers from around the world for several
compelling reasons:
Lumbini is recognized globally as the birthplace of Lord Buddha. The exact spot is
marked by the Mayadevi Temple, where Queen Mayadevi is believed to have given
birth to Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BCE.
Emperor Ashoka, a devout follower of Buddhism, visited Lumbini in the 3rd century
