Health for Men Project (1)
UNAM affirmative action on health for
men will focus and priotise 4 key is-
sues on health for men with special
emphasis on SRHE (Sexual Repro-
ductive Health Education), ANC
strengthening through mobilization
and engagement of men to attend
ANC, SMCs comprehensive mobiliza-
tion in communities, institutions and
HIV/AIDs counseling and testing for
men at Police barrack heath centre III
facilities as our referral point.
UNAM outreach staffs and volunteers
will use role-playing and picture cards
to promote discussion in the commu-
nity on men involvement in the fight
against HIV/AIDS and distribution of
educational materials to address the
underlying men health conditions,
3. for example discussion will focus on key
health issues like antenatal care,
EMTCT services by providing commu-
nity education where men congregate,
organizing support group for men, and
inviting men to clinics for HIV counseling
and testing.
The two most promising routes that
UNAM will consider for the implementa-
tion on health for men project will first to
engender the technical components of
HIV prevention, e.g., syndroniomic man-
agement of communicable disease
among men, continues VCT, condom
promotion and safe male circumcision
as our programme strategy.
UNAM transactional analysis (TA) will
also teach men through follow up, care
and support on how to often abandon
painful and self defeating health strate-
gies, and how to develop different atti-
tudes for dealing with life's problems
through use of hotline mobile phone
Calls , Text messaging on health updates,
etc.
Domestic Violence & Suicide Reduction
among Men Project 2.
Post war and conflict recovery is still a seri-
ous challenge due to LRA insurgency who
had wrecked havoc among men population in
the region destroying properties and over a
period of time men had suffered from the in-
stability of individual peace economy, human
security and stability . As a result of the war
nearly 90% of men lost most of their personal
properties, wealth, family breakages and in-
crease poverty
Despite government and humanitarian inter-
vention effort to support men through male
involvement, most men languish with no
hope, no good formal education, lack skills,
having hard time creating ties with families
and friends.
Drugs abuse and other substance use
as part of their daily activities thus in-
creased domestic violence and suicides
among men.
This project will focus on supporting
and educating men through speech
therapy and speech motivation on key
issues that adversely affect them by
opening up men friendly service centre
that will help fellow men to discus family
challenges, relationship, reproductive
health issues and financial constraint.
In addition UNAM will focus on support-
ing men on suicide reduction cases
through suicide safety audit at commu-
nity level through public dialogue dis-
cussion and opinion sharing , organiz-
ing annual family symposium to discuss
challenges affecting men and women ,
offering relationship and premarital
counseling and legal advise to young
girls and boys, women and older cou-
ples.
