Recently, U2 has joined a movement aimed at the
popular video streaming site YouTube and other major
web platforms that stream music. The members of the
band have attached their names to an open letter
asking Congress to rewrite the legislation that
YouTube is currently exploiting to undermine artists'
capacity to make a living from their own music. Other
big names, such as Taylor Swift, have signed the
letter.

3. Digital Millennium Copyright Act
 This legislation in question is the Digital
Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998. As
the law governs how web companies such as
YouTube use the material that their users
upload, artists claim that it allows YouTube to
shirk its responsibility: providing them with
commensurate compensation. The artists also
feel that they no longer have control over their
own creations as they are not allowed to
choose how their music is used.
