Alpha Rotex is a 16-story, 306,298 square foot commercial office building located in Frankfurt, Germany. Baumann Consulting provided LEED consulting, energy modeling, and commissioning services for the project, which achieved LEED Gold certification. Baumann performed energy modeling, CFD analysis of interior winter gardens, and developed performance models to help maintain thermal comfort in spaces like conference rooms and offices. The building is part of a new sustainable mixed-use development near Frankfurt International Airport aimed at exceeding German energy code by 30% or more.

Reaching a height of 223 feet (68 m) at 16 stories above grade, Alpha Rotex is the crown jewel
of Quartier Alpha on the western edge of Gateway Gardens in Frankfurt, Germany. Gateway
Gardens, an impressive new development project aimed at providing a sustainable, mixed-use
hub adjacent to the Frankfurt International Airport, will be one of the first districts in the country
to be certified under the DGNB German Sustainable Building Council standard. In order to meet
the ambitious energy consumption and emission reduction targets for the site, buildings must be
built and operated in accordance with the rigorous specifications of the German Energy Saving
Ordinance (EnEV), which many buildings are set to exceed by 30% or more.
Baumann Consulting performed Commissioning (Cx), LEED and performance modeling
services for this LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC) version 3.0 Gold certified project. In
addition to LEED energy modeling services, Baumann also performed CFD (computational fluid
dynamics) studies for the 8-story interior winter gardens to achieve both occupant comfort and
natural ventilation goals. Performance models were also developed to allow operations staff to
maintain carefully designed thermal comfort profiles within spaces such as the conference
rooms and offices.
