TYPES OF MEASURING
TOOLS AND THEIR USES
Introduction
In order to make good
products, ingredients, time
and temperature should be
measured correctly. This will
prevent too much or too little
of anything that may affect
the results of a cooking
project.
Objectives of the Class
a. Discuss and identify the different types of
measuring tools and their uses.
b. value the importance of knowing the uses of
measuring tools
1.Quantity measuring tools
These are the tools for
measuring the quantity
of flour, water, etc.
a. Quantity measuring tools for dry ingredients.
measuring cups with opaque designs.
b. Quantity measuring tools for liquid ingredients.
measuring beaker with transparent designs
and visible calibration.
2. Temperature measuring tools
used for measuring temperature of heat applied
during cooking.
3. Weight measuring tools
measures the weight of ingredients for cooking.
4. Time measuring tools
cooking timers are handy when you conduct
precision cooking wherein food such as meat being
heated needs to meet a specific heating time.
Measuring Techniques
inaccurate measuring of
ingredients could affect your
cooking even with little
discrepancies. It is important to
learn how to measure
ingredients accurately as much
as it is important to have
measuring tools and learning
how to use them.
Dry Ingredients
1.Baking soda, flour, sugar, and cocoa powder -
transfer the ingredient gently into the measuring
cup using a spoon or the like.
Dry Ingredients
2. Breadcrumbs, oats, cereals, and other ingredients
with slightly large particles - same with number 1.
Dry Ingredients
3. Bulky dry ingredients such as rice, coconut, and
chopped nuts etc. - these ingredients should be
spooned inside a cup.
Dry Ingredients
4. ingredients such as brown sugar and shortening -
these should be spooned inside the measuring cup.
Dry Ingredients
5. Margarine or butter - these solid ingredients have
templates for measurements on their packs.
Liquid Ingredients
1.Liquid ingredients such as oil may be poured
inside a transparent measuring cup until the
desired volume is reached.
Liquid Ingredients
2. Sticky liquid ingredients should never be put
inside a cup directly. Instead, spray some oil or
melted butter inside the cup so that the sticky
ingredients will be easily transferred later after
conducting measurement.
