Pre-Turnaround Planning&
Preparation
• Before any turnaround begins, our team initiates a structured planning phase in close
Collaboration with the client. This includes the creation of job packs, site surveys, risk-based
inspections (RBI), and developing a full shutdown execution strategy. For example, in a recent
Valero Houston Refinery turnaround, our team conducted full mechanical inspections of
exchangers and vessels to identify potential failure points and scope them into the job list. We
also used Primavera P6 to develop detailed work sequences for over 800 line items,
incorporating equipment isolations, manpower loading, and critical path tracking. Below are the
activities performed during the Pre-Turnaround Planning & Preparation.
• Detailed work scoping
• Risk-based inspection (RBI)
• Asset condition assessment
• Job package preparation
• Material planning and procurement
• Shutdown schedule development (Primavera P6/MS Project)

• Scaffolding work:Pre -TA erection of access scaffold platforms, towers, suspended scaffolds, shelters and heavy
loading scaffold in accordance with Clients requirements. Modification of scaffold as the work phase progress.
Post-TA activities for scaffold dismantle. All scaffolding activities are in accordance with TG 20 / BS EN 12811.
• Coating application: Pre-TA coating system generation, corrosion assessment and composite repair design,
BOM for coating and surface preparation. Preparation of execution plans for coating scopes (external and
internal), equipment layout and connection diagram for compressed air hoses, lighting cables, ventilation, and
extraction pipes. Develop of rescue plans for confined space coating scopes. All coating scopes perform comply
with NACE and ISO standards for surface preparation, coating application and testing.
• Insulation / cladding works: Pre-TA activities for existing insulation and cladding removal. Pre-fabrication of
insulation by CNC machine and cladding pre-fabrication. Post-TA installation of insulation and cladding. All
insulation and cladding scopes comply with CINI standards.
• Mechanical works (static & rotating equipment): We carry out the complete dismantling, inspection, repair,
and reinstallation of static equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and columns, as well as
rotating equipment like pumps, compressors, turbines, and motors. All work adheres to OEM standards and
client specifications. Vibration analysis, shaft alignment, and bearing replacements are included as part of our
rotating equipment services.
• Process piping revamp and tie-ins: Includes cutting, removal, fabrication, and replacement of worn-out pipe
spools, as well as installation of new tie-ins connecting existing units. All piping activities are carried out with
precise isometric control and tested according to pressure class requirements.
Execution Phase
7.
• E&I systemsisolation and integration: Safe disconnection and reconnection of electrical and instrumentation systems, including
cable tagging, loop checking, junction box inspections, and commissioning of field instruments. Also includes temporary lighting and
panel modifications to support shutdown work.
• Valve overhauling, testing & calibration: In-situ removal, overhaul, and reinstallation of isolation, control, relief, and shutdown
valves. Our valve shop or mobile units can perform hydro/pneumatic testing, lapping, and setting of valves to design pressure and
flow parameters.
• Column, vessel, and exchanger maintenance: Mechanical cleaning, tray replacement, demister pad installation, nozzle replacements,
and baffle inspections. The exchangers are dis-assembled and tube bundles pulled and cleaned then reinstalled with new gaskets and
tested for integrity.
• Catalyst handling: Safe unloading, loading, screening, and disposal of catalysts from reactors, reformers, and other process vessels.
Inert entry operations are performed using confined space rescue protocols and specialized trained teams with SCBA gear.
• Blinding/de-blinding: Installation and removal of blinds, spades, and spectacle blinds to ensure plant isolation and system integrity
during maintenance. This is performed under lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and permit-to-work systems.
• Welding and fabrication: On-site and workshop-based fabrication using SMAW, GTAW, and MIG techniques on carbon steel, stainless
steel, and alloy piping. All welding is monitored with WPS/PQR adherence, and welders are qualified to 6G standards.
• NDT, hydro testing, and QA/QC compliance: Includes radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing
(MPT), and dye penetrant testing (DPT). Hydrotests are performed for pressure validation. All QA/QC documentation is compiled as
per ITP and submitted in final dossiers.
• Specialty subcontractor coordination: Coordination and integration of OEMs, catalyst specialists, refractory teams, or any client-
nominated specialty contractors to ensure seamless scope execution. Our team handles workfront readiness, access provision, and
interface management.
