Banu Çay içiyorum, bir sandviç yiyorum ve email yazıyorum. Ayrıca
televizyon izliyorum. Sen neredesin, ne yapıyorsun? I am
drinking tea, eating a sandwich and writing an email. I am also watching
TV. Where you now? What are you doing?
Can İşteyim. Çalışıyorum. Email yazıyorum, telefonda
konuşuyorum, kahve içiyorum… Her zamanki gibi. I am at work.
I am writing an email, talking on the phone, drinking coffee… As usual.

3. Learn the Present Tense(s) in Turkish.
The suffix for the present verb tenses in Turkish is - YOR.
Okumak To read
O bir kita okumak istiyor. He wants to read a book.
O bir kitap okuyor. He is reading a book.
The suffix - YOR is used to form:
1. O (şimdi) bir kitap okuyor.
He is reading a book (now).
2. O (her gün) bir kitap okuyor.
He reads a book (every day).
3. O (5 dakikadır) bir kitap okuyor.
He has been reading a book (for 5 minutes).
Here is how to form verbs in the present tense:
1. Verbs ending with a vowel take the suffix - yor only.
O okuyor. He is reading.
O yürüyor. He is walking.
O uyuyor. He is sleeping.
2. Verbs ending with a consonant take an additional suffix
(i/ü/ı/u) before the - yor suffix.
O bakıyor. He is looking.
O içiyor. He is drinking.
O gülüyor. He is smiling.
3. If the last letter of the verb root is - e/a, you drop this letter
and add the additional (vowel (i/ü/ı/u) between the root and -
yor suffix.
İstemek O isteiyor. He wants.
yaşamak O yaşaıyor. He lives.
izlemek O izleiyor. He is watching.
oynamak O oynauyor. He is playing.
The verb root takes 1) - yor suffix 2) personal suffix. For
example:
O okuyor. He is reading. (There is no
personal suffix for “O”).
Ben okuyorum. I am reading.
Sen okuyorsun. You are reading.
Biz okuyoruz. We are reading.
Siz okuyorsunuz. You are reading.
Onlar okuyor(lar). They are reading.
4. Make short sentences using O, Ben, Sen as in the example.
1. kahve yapmak to make coffee 5. Türkçe konuşmak to speak Turkish
2. çay içmek to drink tea 6. pizza yemek to eat a pizza
3. kitap okumak to read a book 7. futbol oynamak to play football
4. film izlemek to watch a film
1. O kahve yapıyor. Ben kahve yapıyorum. Sen kahve yapıyorsun.

7. O futbol oynuyor. Ben futbol oynuyorum. Sen futbol
oynuyorsun.
5. What are my friends doing? Learn the new words, read
the text and fill in the blanks with the verbs.

Bugün benim arkadaşlarım ne yapıyor? Özcan saç (1) ___
