The Software Engineering and Internet Technologies Laboratory (SEIT) lab is part of the Computer Science Department of the University of Cyprus. The lab focuses its research activities on two important areas of Information Technology, namely Software Engineering and Internet Technologies. In the first area, SEIT focuses on Cloud Computing, Service Oriented Architectures, Context-Aware Middleware Platforms and Smart and Mobile Computing for the development of pervasive, self-adaptive applications and Smart IoT services. In the second area, the Laboratory concentrates on the development of ICT-enabled Environments, platforms and tools for implementing Health monitoring and support services, Smart and Personalised services for Elders, Assistive Technologies for people with disabilities and Creativity services. The lab also pursues activities related to Technology Enhanced Learning, E-Business, E-Government and developing environments for elders' social inclusion, active ageing and independent living. Finally, the lab's research is also related to Creativity, Recommender Systems and Crowd Sourcing.

UTC is well-known for producing multi-facet, wide-ranging engineers. They can be top-notch technically or
skilful managers, or a mix of both – this is largely due to the cursus structure, with its 6 elective majors
and 24 optional specialties that opens the way to innumerable professional opportunities. That is why there
is no stereotype profile for a UTC graduate … This month’s ‘dossier’ looks at this rich diversity and invites
the students to tell us how they perceived their last placement, just before they are invited to their muchawaited
UTC graduation ceremony? The following short stories, in a sense, help the future graduates to project
themselves into a job context. We shall be able to follow their first steps. Twice a year, 1 000 industrial training
officers, UTC’s pedagogical tutors and the trainees meet for the poster session day devoted to the placements.
The students have 15 minutes each to valorise their experience!

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) has become a driving force behind the current evolution of e-Infrastructure to support research. The EOSC offers the vision of an integrated ecosystem of data, services and expertise providing a common platform for open cross-community research in Europe and beyond. In this session, I shall consider the aims of the EOSC and discuss some the opportunities it offers, and barriers it needs to overcome to realise the vision. I shall introduce the EOSC-Pilot project which is aiming to pave the way towards the EOSC by exploring the opportunities and barriers, and proposing how the EOSC should evolve, both technically, including its architecture, and organisationally, including how it should be managed. Participants will be invited to consider what the issues of the EOSC are and how it might affect their own domain.
