Editor's Notes

  • #12 TSG, together with our network of international partners, has developed unrivaled domain expertise in the legal structures of public benefit organizations and amassed a unique and valuable dataset of more than 615,000 NGOs worldwide. These NGOs collectively provide significant representation across all social issue areas and can be compared across countries and sectors, by size and program. These organizations by and large represent the 99% of organizations that receive the least resources and represent some of the most excluded parts of society. TSG and our global network of NGO partners regularly communicate and interact with this community and regularly roll out impactful programs at scale to serve this community’s needs.   Our network is a trusted source of information and provides the best in technology tools and education from key leading technology partners, such as Microsoft, Google, Intuit, and Symantec – to name just a few from our list of over 100 corporate partners. We’re honored to also have 50 grantmaker members use NGOsource for their equivalency determinations. Of the biggest 15 international grantmakers, eight have signed on so far, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and The Rockefeller Foundation. The lists of our corporate and foundation partners are included at the end of the presentation for your reference.
  • #16 Technology transforms NGOs when they can get it when they can learn how to use it and when it can accelerate their work Several factors elevate NGOs’ need for help with technology: Economic gaps. The rapid evolution of technology. An abundance of tech choices that can overwhelm and confuse (the cloud, mobile, so many options). NGO staff may be skilled in an issue or a service, but are not always tech experts. Technology companies are willing and often eager to donate products and services, and there are NGOs who need the technology. However, to connect companies and NGOs remains a challenge. Access to technology is essential, but context is key: NGOs need local technology “know-how” and support. For NGOs to use technology effectively, they need solutions. TechSoup Global works with many NGOs and many partners to create solutions that work and are easy to share, replicate, and scale. “Today, technology is the social catalyst empowering communities in all corners of the globe to improve their lives and shape their collective future. Modern technology is opening floodgates of information and influence historically reserved only for those in power.” – Jeff Skoll Data Sources: Jeff Skoll Quote: http://www.forbes.com/sites/rahimkanani/2011/07/05/a-minute-with-jeff-skoll-on-technology-and-global-social-change/
