Pandit Shankar Ghosh
He followed the Farukhabad gharana of
Hindustan classical music.
Performed with vocalists such as Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, Girija Devi and
many others.
He had also done jugalbandi with classical musician sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar.
He was awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 2000.

Mrinalini Sarabhai
She was the founder director of the
Darpana Academy of Performing Arts.
Trained over 18,000 students in Bharatnatyam and Kathakali.
She had also written many novels, poetry, plays and stories for children.
She was honored with the national civilian awards
Padma Bhushan in 1992 and Padma Shri in 1965.

Syed Haider Raza
Raza is considered as one of Indian modern art’s greatest painters.
His works are mainly abstracts in oil or acrylic.
He lived and worked in France from 1950, but maintained strong ties with India.
Founder-member of the Progressive Artists’ Group.

K.G. Subramanyan
Subramanyan was also a freedom fighter and was imprisoned briefly during the
Quit India Movement.
His paintings experimented with the idea of the
Indian myths.
Subramanyan was also an art historian and his body of work forms a significant
document of Indian art history.
In 1955, he received a British Council Fellowship to Slade School of Art at the
University of London.
