Technology Trends for 2013
According to Deloitte, Our 2013 trends are grouped into two categories: Disruptors and
Enablers. Disruptors are opportunities that can create sustainable positive disruption in IT
capabilities, business operations, and sometimes even business models while Enablers are
technologies in which many CIOs have already invested time and effort, but which warrant
another look because of new developments or opportunities. From Forbes’ Top 10, these
Technology Trends are the ever advancing Mobile devices, Mobile applications and html 5,
Personal Clouds, Internet of things, Hybrid IT or Cloud Computing, Strategic Big Data,
Actionable Analytics, Mainstream In-Memory Computing, Integrated Ecosystems, and
Enterprise App Stores.
Among these trends, I think most of it will succeed because they answer to the needs of
businesses and industry nowadays. It enable us easy access and convenience when it comes to
developing, computing, entertainment and web surfing. As I see these days, I think the
breakthroughs of mobile devices will continue to do well even if it cost much, same goes for
Personal clouds and Cloud Computing because it advances the File transfer protocol we had
years ago. This makes it easy for businesses especially students, build backup for all the files. It
makes services more important and devices less important. It encourages productivity and
efficiency. I don’t think one of these trends will fail because it defines its own target market and
has its own purpose but in my opinion, the one thing that won’t succeed as the others do is the
Strategic Big Data. Organizations need to focus on non-traditional data types and external data
sources. Hadoop and NoSQL gain momentum. Big data will meet social. The five richest big data
sources on the Web include social graph, intent graph, consumption graph, interest graph and
mobile graph. Concept of single corporate data warehouse is dead. Multiple systems will need
to be tied together. This might be helpful especially to businesses but expensive to have one.
Businesses might just go to the traditional way which they were able to control than these big
system that might be quite complicated and takes a lot of time and money to maintain and
sustain. It is a great innovation but for this year, maybe the people aren’t ready yet.
In significance to our country’s current situation, these trends may be beneficial if used
accordingly and responsibly. The technology we have now shows competitiveness in our
country. The Filipino developers and programmers that contribute to these technological trends
give pride to our country. Technology-related businesses attract investors, thus helping to our
economy. The Filipinos knowledge on technology makes them professionally and
internationally competitive that gives a positive image to our country. Our country is still
growing and improving and through technology, we can continue to progress just like the other
country did. Why do you think Japan became one of the First World countries? Their technology
and patriotism is one factor that let them stand out.
As a CA student, these trends are helpful because it broaden our knowledge to technology and
scientific interventions. It helps us be viable and think maturely on things especially when it
comes to the economy. Our knowledge about it may lead us to be technopreneurs in the future
and contribute to our economy and may be part of the history. As a future professional in the
Business and technology industry, knowing the trends today and continue thinking out of the
box to create solutions using these technology will bring forth to our experience and hopefully,
our success. A Combination of Management in both business and computers will keep us going
to the path we chose. Having even just a simple knowledge over the trends today will make us
believe that many things may be manipulated and developed for the good of the society, to
make some things in the world easily managed.
Each of the 2013 trends is relevant today. Each has significant momentum and potential to
make an impact. And each warrants timely consideration. Forward-thinking organizations
should consider developing an explicit strategy in each area – even if that strategy is to wait and
see. But whatever you do, step up. Provoke and harvest disruption. Don’t get caught unaware
or unprepared.
