Treatment Ideas.
1)
Blurb
Set in London Paddington, an innocent homeless man is made out to be someone
he’s not. After frenetic chases and extended arguments teddy (main character) tries
to reassure everyone he’s not the bad guy.
Character bios
Teddy – Teddy is a 38 year old man. His status is homeless and visits the London
tube station every day. He is a quiet man, incredibly shy but is intrigued by everyone
who surrounds him every single day on the tube. He is unemployed and has no
family. He is alone the majority of the time. He is mistaken by a lot of people and
instantly judged upon by everyone. He once had it all and was very successful. He
finds it hard to come to terms that this is life now.
Police officer (Simon) – 40 yrs old and lives in the nicer end of London. Simon is a
police officer that works at London Paddington station; he is familiar with Teddy
appearing at the station every day. Simon’s job is to walk around the station and
make sure everyone is paying for their tickets and not stealing from the small market
stalls. He has a very distinctive relationship with Teddy however Teddy is totally
oblivious and is unaware of this matter. Simon lives on his own in a modern flat and
has been a police officer over 15 years.
Ticket man (Mario) – Mario is a 38yr old man he is very small and very friendly. He is
Spanish and speaks very little English. He takes his job very seriously as he checks
peoples train tickets before entering the thousand people carriage. Just like Simon,
Mario feels sorry for Teddy and allows Teddy to go on the train without a ticket
someday as Teddy cannot afford it. Mario is not mentioned or heard in this radio
drama but is spoken about by Teddy.
Storyline
Set in London Paddington station. An average thirty eight year old, Teddy describes
to us what he goes through every day living life on the tube. His life revolves around
everyone around him quite literally. He comes across numerous types of people who
walk on and off the tube. All the different stereotypes he has seen it all. Teddy once
had everything, money, good health, family and happiness. In this radio drama he
doesn’t quite tell you why he’s got to where he is now but you can understand what
he is feeling and get a gist of what he’s been through. We hear aloud his thoughts on
everyone he passes throughout his day in London.
Statement of intent
I plan to use SFX in the radio drama to convince and persuade the audience. I feel
that appropriate sound effects will make my radio drama easier to understand and
easier to in vision in your head. I will use sound effects to create a realism to this
drama so people can connect and relate to it. I have decided to write this radio
drama in third person as I feel the audience will be able to gain a better connection
to the storyline. They will create a relationship between the audience and character
which I feel is something that will make my radio drama a success.
