PASSPORT
An official document issued by a competent public
authority of a country to its nationals, to help the
holder to cross any border or port of the country,
without any hindrance or delay.
VISA
It is a permit which allows a citizen of one
country to enter into another country for a
designated period for a specific purpose.
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS &
FOREIGN EXCHANGE
It relates to the rules and regulations of the
transport of articles and species from one
country to another. It also includes the value of
currency or limit allowed.
RESTRICTED AREA PERMITS
Tourists do not have restrictions for
movement within a country but places
like border states require special permit .
HEALTH REGULATIONS AND
COMPULSORY VACCINATIONS
It is required only by certain countries. Some countries
may recommend certain immunizations, especially when
the travelers normally travel outside the urban areas.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Tourists going abroad need to insure themselves
against any sudden and unexpected mishap, such as
sickness, accident, or death, which may arise when
the insured person is outside his country of origin.
EMIGRATION & IMMIGRATION
Emigration is the act of leaving a resident country or
place of residence[1] with the intent to settle else
where. Conversely, immigration describes the
movement of persons into one country from another.

3. Concept
of special
permits-
Domestic and foreign tourist normally do not have restrictions for
movement within India. But a special entry permit is required for tourists
for the border states and the islands of Andaman, Nicobar and
Lakshadweep. In some areas only foreigners are required to obtain a
permit.
This requirement includes a police certificate issued by police station In
charge of local police station area where applicant is living or working.
This certificate certifies that applicant bears good moral character and
that he has never booked under any charges or no complaint has ever
been lodged against him/her.
If applicant is in service a letter of recommendation from employer can
facilitate the process. If applicant is not in service, for example, self-
employed in such a case a letter of recommendation from renowned
personality of the location can also facilitate the procedure.
The tourist groups should consist of 4 to 20 people.
This permit is valid for 15 days only and should be applied for at least 2
weeks in advance. This permit can be issued by either the Ministry of
Home Affairs or the Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRRO),
located in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata or the Indian
Diplomatic Missions abroad.

EXCEPTIONS: Citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar (Burma) can get the PAP (Protected
Area Permit) only with the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

5. Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Guwahati, and
Kamakhya temple. Permits are issued for a stay of 10 days to those
travelling in groups.
ASSAM

issued for a stay of 15 days to group travelers or individual traveler.
2. Sandakphu & Phalut areas in Darjeeling and wildlife sanctuaries
require permits.

1. Gangtok, Rumtek, Phodang, Pemayangtse Khecheperi,
Pomayangtse and Tashiging.
2. Zongri (west Sikkim)

7. INSTRUCTION FOR TRAVEL AGENTS/ TOUR
OPERATORS/GUEST HOUSES:-
1. Travel agents/tour operators shall ensure that the tourist groups
sponsored by them are in possession of valid Restricted/Protected
Areas Permit.
2. It shall be the responsibility of the travel agents/ tour operators to
ensure that the tourist groups do not go to places other than the ones
that are permitted and also ensure that they do not stay there after
the expiry of the valid period.
3. Owners of the guest house/hotels must ensure that only foreigners
with valid Restricted/Protected Area Permit stay with them. It is
mandatory for the guest houses/hotels and also individuals to inform
the local police about the arrival/departure of a foreigner within 24
hours if a foreigner stay with them.
4. Action such as black listing, suspending/ cancelling of licenses etc.
will be taken against those who do not follow the above instructions
under the Foreigners Act, 1946.
