Train The Trainer
This model is often used for trainer’s professional
development.
It refers to a structured method in which a group of
employees receives a training program that focuses both on
specific training content and on how to teach this training
content to other.
Here, Trainer : A Person who trains someone.
Trainee : A person who is being taught how to do
a particular job
• This model has strong network .
• It is important that you create training materials that cater to the
different ways in which people like to learn. For example, some people
prefer to learn from doing whereas others may prefer to learn from
reading a book.
• These trainer can deliver the course and in addition train
other trainers.
• The core advantage “Train-the-Trainer model” is its
effectiveness to teach new skills and knowledge to a wide
range of people within an organisation by involving
internal resources to scale training delivery than hiring a
This approach was first applied in NGOs and non-profit
organizations and since then enterprises picked it up and
applied it to their learning and development programs.

1. Define your goals : Begin by deciding what it is you want your
train-the-trainer course to achieve. Some common objectives include:
1. Train technical experts to be able to impart their knowledge to others.
2. Train employees to be able to onboard new employees.
3. Build a core team of trainers who will train the entire organization
whenever any new IT system (or another new way of working) is
rolled out.

• Typically, the trainers’ competence will be measured at both the
beginning and end of the course. They will usually be assessed on
both their technical expertise as well as their teaching expertise.
3. Design your train-the-trainer course:
• If your teaching subject matter experts, then it’s likely you’ll spend a
significant proportion of your time teaching them teaching skills.
• If your teaching experienced trainers, then you’ll spend a more
significant proportion of the time teaching the subject itself.

• There are two sets of materials that you’ll need to make:
• Materials for your train-the-trainer course.

Providing these materials to your trainers helps ensure consistency as
you rollout the training into the wider organization.

trainees through presentation and video confrencing and share their

Importance/ Advantages of concept
1. It improves skills and knowledge: Employee training programs help improve
the knowledge and skills of employees to match the various changes in the
industry. These improvements will positively affect the productivity of
workers, which can increase the profits and efficiency of an organization.
2. Increased efficiency of employees: An effective training programme can
employees of the company work in an effective manner. With training people
and this confidence is seen in the output and results.

• The amount of wastage by an employee is reduced a lot due to training and
therefore if we take an account of the amount of wastage we find that the

• Proper training improves chances of obtaining promotions and employees are happy because they have better
opportunities Due to this their chances of leaving their current job reduces greatly thereby reducing employee
turnover in the company.

• An employee needs to be supervised when he works. When the employee has got sufficient training the amount
of supervision required is less as mistakes are less. This reduces the workload of the supervisor.
5. Increased efficiency of employees:
• An effective training programme can make the employees of the company work in an effective manner. With
training people gain confidence and this confidence is seen in the output and results.

• Training always benefits employees whether old or new. In case of new employees, training helps them a lot . This

• If you want to train people very quickly, then it may be
quicker to bring external trainers.
