interviews that will be faced when graduating from University.
1.2 About the Company
Arab Towers Contracting Company (ATCCO) was incorporated in 2007, formerly Hisham
Wadi Contracting Establishment, a leading construction company established in 1988 to serve
the Jordanian market and the surrounding region. ATCCO is the result of the partnership
between Hisham Wadi and Al-Manaseer group, a pioneering investment Group in Jordan, with a
number of subsidiaries in different business such as; ready mix concrete, reinforcement steel,
crushed stones and cement factories.
The company's experience and resources, acquired over the years, cover the full spectrum of
construction works, ranging from heavy civil construction projects such as paper mills factories,
steel mills factories, water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants and industrial plants to
small projects according to client's requirements. In addition to various electromechanical and
steel projects.

2.4.1 General Site Details
Architectural drawings are two types:
1. Tender drawings: Drawings that are used for estimating/pricing the cost of the building to
be constructed.
2. Shop drawings : A shop drawing is a drawing or set of drawings produced by
the contractor, supplier, manufacturer, subcontractor, or fabricator. Shop drawings are
typically required for prefabricated components and considered as final drawings.
Safety Instructions:
1. Hard hat to offer head protection by reducing injury to industrial and structural workers
but will not provide ultimate protection.
2. Safety Shoes.
3. Glasses and gloves when needed.
Applying what you see on the shop drawing in the site requires full knowledge of some
important components like those shown in figure (2.1)
Figure (2.1) Different types of connecting trays made of either galvanized material or PVC
8. 7
As well as there are two types of pipes for wires
1. PVC (poly venal florid)
2. Galvanized steel pipe
We must mention the standard color code that is used in IKEA stores project as shown in figure
(2.2)

Cables can be rated as following
4*2.5 PVC – insulated normal wire
4*2.5 PVC/PVC – Flexible cable
4*2.5 PVC/SWA/PVC – Armored cable (SWA Steel wire armored cable)
Cable trays, trunks and ladders are used to collect cables in an easy manner all the way to the
MDB
2.4.2 Fire alarm system
IKEA Stores project is consider as one of the biggest complex in Amman, and for that reason it
must contain a system that maintain its safety and the safety of its luggage as well as visitors
from a fire fighting perspective.
There are two types of fire alarm systems; addressable fire alarm system and conventional fire
alarm system, the one we deal in our project is an addressable fire alarm system which is used
for large industry such as IKEA stores project.
In my training period about this section of study many information about fire alarm system has
been known as illustrated next.
- Fire alarm system shop drawing legend (figure 2.4) and Zone A fire alarm system (figure 2.5)
as well as fire alarm riser in figure (2.6) has been explained to me step by step by my supervisor
showing fire alarm system loops and how smoke detectors (figure 2.7), break glasses, bells,
CM’s (Control module) and MM’s Monitor module) are placed on the shop drawing as well as
on site. Figure (2.8) shows how fire alarm system is installed on the site.
Smoke detectors are placed 7 m diameter away from each other.

2.4.3 Lighting system
Lighting system is one of many important systems in any building.
IKEA stores lighting installation for ground floor, first floor and second floor as well haven’t
been finished yet except for pulling wires with different cross sectional areas throw pipes (either
galvanized or PVC pipes) in order to complete a R, S, T circuit with a Red, Yellow and blue
colors for each circuit breaker after that these pipes will go throw a cable tray, trunk or ladder to
the SMDB (Sub main distribution board) going back to a MDB then to the feeding transformer
which in IKEA stores project haven’t been installed yet.
Following the lighting system layout from the shop drawings will lead the site engineer to a
perfect setting for lighting system.

Figure (2.10) Lighting switches
A voltage drop may occur in any line and it’s especially of importance for cables voltage rating
not exceeding 0.6/1KV.Relevant installation regulation has to be observed with respect to the
maximum permissible voltage drop of cables circuits which normally should not exceed 3.5% of
the nominal voltage. Figure (2.11) shows the approximate voltage drop per ampere per meter.
Figure (2.11) approximate voltage drop per ampere per meter.
15. 14
MDB (Main distribution board) is shown in figure (2.12) which shows a DB for the roof floor
with a main CB 100A Isolator and a demand factor of 0.8
More details are shown in the figure.

Types of Circuit breakers:
1. Low voltage CB includes (MCB –Miniature CB & MCCB – Modeled case CB)
2. Magnetic CB
3. Thermal magnetic CB
4. Medium CB
5. High voltage CB
2.4.4 Power system
Power system includes different types of power plugs which are either a 1ph plug or a 3 ph plug
as shown in figure (2.14)
Figure (2.14) 1ph power plug and a 3ph power plug
Power system design contains not only one loop in IKEA stores project but many loops so that
any unexpected fault doesn’t affect the work of the system.

2.4.6 Surge arrester
A surge arrester is a product installed near the end of any conductor which is long enough
before the conductor lands on its intended electrical component. The purpose is to divert
damaging lightning-induced transients safely to ground through property changes to
its varistor in parallel arrangement to the conductor inside the unit.
Lightning termination to earth results in ground currents which pass over buried conductors and
induce a transient that propagates outward towards the ends of the conductor.
The surge arrester used in IKEA stores project has a V shape as shown in figure (2.20/A) for its
base and a 70 mm copper cable as shown in figure (2.20/B) that reaches a rod placed in the
ground.

2.4.7 Finishing
After understanding these different systems I’ve followed up work in the site with the help of my
supervisor Eng.Hazem Alzyadeen until the very last day of my training course.
Note that the needed transformer hasn’t been installed yet as well as many Supplements in the
site.

3.1 Recommendations
Training as a site engineer is a good choice to see how things work in real practical life
but after a period you don't see any new missions to handle.
As a point of view, I recommend training as a technical support engineer to design
electrical systems such as fire alarm system or lighting system using different programs
such as dialux.
The amount of information known from such training is considered good to such major.
The lack of follow up from the academic supervisor is a huge problem because the main
purpose of training after student benefits is the link between the public and private
sectors.
3.2 Conclusion
Any structural building contains four main electrical service systems (Lighting system,
power system, fire alarm system, security system and data system.)
In constructing any of these systems several aspects must be taking into account:
1. Type of material to be used.
2. Availability of those materials.
3. Quality.
4. Price.
A site engineer has to be aware of any problem and make the proper solution for it in the
shortest time.
A site engineer must have a good look for the future plans for a site.
A site engineer has to take in mind the coordination between various engineering fields.
