Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath, breaking Jewish law, to teach compassion. He notes that even animals would be helped on the Sabbath, so people should be prioritized. Jesus then teaches on humility, saying those who exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted. He tells a Pharisee that inviting the poor as well as the rich to meals brings greater reward, as acceptance into God's family and resurrection are the highest statuses attainable.

2.  Jesus makes his appearance at a home of a Pharisee
 Jesus was recognized as a rabbi, which explains why he got an invitation to the dinner
 A lot of people are keenly watching him as he is already making news
 The Jews have laws in place and is expected to be strictly adhered to
 Jesus was working in contrary to that and this was becoming more of a habit

3.  “Jesus The Healer” a reputation that precedes him
 A diseased man requests healing
 Healing on the Sabbath is against the Law
 Jesus is about to break another law maintained for 400Years
 Question is why? What possible benefit could Jesus get done by overriding a law, he
could simply heal the man the next day.
Answer is…
 To train the heart to see an individual as god chooses to see – A member of the family.
 Nobody questioned Jesus or his actions, some did expect him to heal as he was already a
subject of concern among the teachers of the law and this healing was another reason for
their disappointment.
 But it was the statement made by Jesus that changed the mood of the house in verse 5 “If
your son or work animal falls into the well on a Sabbath day, you know you will pull
him out quickly”
 If your heart is ready to see things as god does, then every member diseased or not
will be seen as ones made by the same hands that created you.

4.  Jesus watches the crowd and recognizes men desirous to get noticed
 Men choosing to sit in prime positions of the crowd to gain importance
 Jesus speaks of being presumptuous of ones status
 There is always someone better than you
 You presume to be important may prove embarrassing when proved otherwise
 Why did Jesus decide to go stern on these men? He could have just thing be as is?
Answer is…
 To train the heart to remain humble at all times
 A humble heart has always found favor in the eyes of God
 Famous Men of the Bible have all been recognized even if they had faults because the
choose to be humble
 God hates those who are proud and verse 11 clearly states that those who seek to position
themselves important will be humbled, while those who see themselves as humble will be
made important
 Humbleness is a trait of Love and a heat that knows to love will know to recognize a
brother and remain humble.

5.  Jesus points out to the Pharisee that seeing the poor with the same importance and being
humble enough to invite the poor for a meal bring so much more blessing
 Share the same enthusiasm to invite the poor for dinner as he did for the rich
 See the poor in the same light as he would view the rich
 Show the same haste to help the poor as he would have done for the rich
 Why did Jesus have to say something like that? Doesn't he know how that action by a
Pharisee could hurt his reputation in public ? What about the position of the Pharisee
in society? Will he be accepted by his circle of friends he has come to identify with?
Answer is…
 To train the heart to understand that the reward is the acceptance into the family of
God and a position among the righteous when the good people rise from the dead
 Its not always the rich or famous that make up heaven, its also those that are less fortunate
too
 The recognition from God is the highest status one could get and here is how you get it
 God promises a resurrection for good men in verse 14 a life to look forward to with HIM in
heaven.
