This slide gives an overview of what the presentation will cover
In response to participant feedback we discontinued the 100km, kept the 50km and added the even shorter 25km. These participants from State Street did the 50km in 2012 and are coming back again to take part this year.
The 25km is a looped walk from Carlingford. The 50km starts in Newcastle, Co Down and finishes in Carlingford, Co Louth, same as previous years. You need a team captain.
This a map of the 50km route, it has not changed from previous years. Checkpoints will be slightly different.
Talk about fundraising targets for each event. Fundraising has almost been halved making it more achieveable.
Any permeations of 3-6 are allowed.
You don’t need a support crew for either event – this was a barrier to entry for teams in the past.
Touch on our work briefly. We are based in 94 countries worldwide. Oxfam Ireland have projects in East, Central, Southern Africa.
We combine emergency response, long term projects and campaigning to tackle the root causes of poverty
Olmwalmui Lukeine is a member of the Massai tribe and was born in the Serengeti. The boundaries of the Serengeti National Park are extending, infringing on his village. Oxfam are working with Massai people on land rights, helping them realise their rights and educate them about the law.
We campaign on issues that affect the people work with it, issues such as climate change, trade and land grabs. Current campaigns are the IF campaign – tackling aid, tax, land and transparency and the Grow campaign tackling imbalance in the food system
Little bit of training Little bit of fundraising Lots of fun
In both Dublin & Belfast
You don’t need to set up a mycharity.ie page – you have online fundraising with Oxfam
Training walk pencilled in for 11 May
The route is way marked with arrows and each kilometre is marked. There will also be stewards and marshals out on the route guiding you.
Friendly volunteers at every checkpoint, the start and finish!
At the finish you will be a certificate, a big cheer from the team and a fantastic feeling of achievement.
