Apett Presidential Lecture The National Network Of Highway Projects And The...ceal2005
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 2009 proposed to embark on a National Network of Highways Project (NNHP) that would see the construction of a number of cross country highways. Notwithstanding the obvious benefits of the NNHP, the immediate challenge faced by commuters and motorists throughout the country is the transportation crisis that exits in the major urban centers as a result of the inadequacy and lack of development of the transport infrastructure in these fast growing commercial centers. This presentation discusses the major elements of the NNHP and the traffic gridlock crisis that exists in some of the urban centers around the country in relation to the short, medium and long term recommendations of a Comprehensive National Transportation Study (CNTS) undertaken in 2005/06
Orange line train project impact in environmental pollutionShahzaib Khan
Lahore is the 2ND largest urban center and provincial capital of the Punjab Province with a population of 9 million inhabitants in 2006. The transport demand amounts to 6.8 million daily person trips for work, shopping or recreation other than walking.
So we expected to rise to more than 11 million by the year 2021. (LUTMP) in 2010-2011, recorded 8 million trips per day in the year 2010. The major percentage of this travel demand comprises of public transport.
To resolve public transport issues in Lahore and to provide safe, efficient, comfortable, and affordable transport to the public, Government of the Punjab has successfully completed METRO BUS project and currently planning to introduce a Metro Rail Transit System on the Orange Line (From Ali Town to Dera Gujran), Lahore.
This presentation was made at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi as part of Global knowledge sharing meeting for Technology Needs Assessment for Climate Change Phase 2

Recognizing that there is no single solution to Metro Manila's complex transportation issue, it is

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
An astonishing, first-of-its-kind, report by the NYT assessing damage in Ukraine. Even if the war ends tomorrow, in many places there will be nothing to go back to.
