Tornados form when warm, humid air meets cold, dry air, causing a swirling funnel of wind to extend from a thunderstorm to the ground. Tornados can destroy anything in their path by blowing away trees, cars, houses, and trucks with winds up to 300 mph, which usually occur during spring and summer storms. Safety tips during a tornado include having a safety kit with food for at least 3 days and going to a basement, or if not available, seeking shelter in a place with no windows or lying low.
