Topical non steriod Anti Inflammatory Analgesic Muscle Relaxant Gel
1. TOPICAL NON STEROIDAL ANTI
INFLAMMATORY ANALGESIC MUSCLE
RELAXANT WITH FORMULA:
Diclofenac Sodium
Methyl Salicylate
Mephenesin
2. Virgin Linseed Oil
Will be a powerful analgesic and anti- inflammatory
agent for treating acute painful conditions. Gels facilitate
greater drug permeation into the skin and faster drug
release. The topical application allows penetration of
Diclofenac through the skin into the deeper layers.
In tissues such as tendons where vascularization is rather
poor, topical application of over the affected tendons can
lead to adequate concentration in the locally inflamed
region. Since it bypasses the systemic circulation, the
systemic side effects are also minimized.
The other ingredients used will have the following
properties.
Capsaicin is a counter irritant and has topical analgesic
properties. Mephenesin when applied topically has local
anaesthetic and direct muscle relaxant action. Methyl
Salicylate is a counter irritant and gives relief when used
for painful muscles and joints. Virgin Linseed oil has
soothing effects and allays irritation. Menthol is a counter
irritant and also has analgesic effects when applied to the
skin.
3. Together the combined effects of the preparation gives
immense relief in painful conditions of the joints and
muscles.
ADVANTAGES:-
The transdermal drug delivery (TDD) has been a boon in
delivering a drug with the vehicle into the deeper layers of
the skin such as subdermal, fascia, muscles, tendons, joint
capsules and synovial fluid. Gels liquify in contact with
skin forming a thin film. Since employment will give
delivery system it ensures better relief of pain and
inflammation in the given indications. There is a high
therapeutic concentration of the ingredients in the targeted
area with a slow degree of systemic absorption and
therefore lower plasma concentration with reduced side
effects.
4. A complete topical formula for localized painful
inflammatory conditions. It gives muscle relaxation by
Mephenesin, counter-irritation by Capsaicin, anti-
inflammatory by Diclofenac, rubefacient by Methyl
Salicylate, cooling effect, analgesia by Menthol and
soothing effect by Virgin Linseed oil.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:-
1. DICLOFENAC has been shown to relieve pain, reduce
oedema and shorten the time to return to normal function
in inflammation of traumatic or immunological origin
because of its ability to inhibit prostaglandin biosynthesis.
2. CAPSAICIN has been used as a counter irritant and
topical analgesic in painful conditions. The mechanism of
action is believed to be the result of depletion of
substance P from both nerve fibers and sensory neurons
reducing the transmission of pain impulses to the central
nervous system,
3. MEPHENESIN after topical application penetrates
through the skin and reaches the underlying muscles in
sufficient quantities to produce a direct muscle relaxant
action.
5. 4. METHYL SALICYLATE is a salicylic acid derivative
that is used topically as a counter-irritant in rubefacient
preparations for the relief of pain in skeletal muscles,
Joint and soft tissue disorders.
5. VIRGIN LINSEED OIL is an emollient and has the
advantage of lubricating and moisturizing the skin,
counteracting dryness and skin irritation.
6. MENTHOL is a counter irritant with analgesic
properties used for various topical analgesic preparations.
When applied to the skin, menthol dilates the blood
vessels causing a sensation of coldness followed by an
analgesic effect.
INDICATIONS:-
6. Joint pain Sprains Strains Lumbago Low back pain
Medical and Sports Massage.

occasionally occur.
b) General - Systemic absorption of Diclofenac is low,
compared with plasma levels obtained following oral
forms of Diclofenac. However, when gel is applied to a
relatively large area of skin and over a prolonged period,
the possibility of systemic side effects cannot be excluded.
These include Epigastric pain, nausea and
diarrhoea.Tiredness, insomnia, irritability, vertigo.
GI CNS Kidney - Rarely acute renal insufficiency.
