The document promotes Mount Pleasant Recreation's "Families In Motion" feature by inviting families to submit stories and photos of how they stay active together over the summer. It provides examples of classes and activities families can do, such as dance classes, playing sports together at local parks, cooking fresh seafood caught locally, visiting all the parks in town, and relaxing in the community pools. Families are encouraged to sign up for the Fit Family Challenge to track their active minutes and win prizes from Mount Pleasant.

T
he summer season is one of constant ad-
venture. Mount Pleasant Recreation offers
classes and events to increase learning
when children are out of the classroom and families
find more freedom to explore. The community’s nat-
ural setting is one visitors cherish for a weekend but
residents can relish all year long. This summer, keep
your mind and body “IN MOTION” and find some
hidden summer treasures in this historic town.
1. Dance the long days away. With Mount Pleasant
Recreation classes like Parent Child Ballroom
Sampler and Mom & Me Ballet, you can waltz into
the summer nights together and put on an end of
summer backyard recital, complete with strung
lights and homemade costumes.
2. Team up with your family. Take advantage of
Park West Recreation Complex or R.L. Jones Center
Fields and gather neighbors for a family vs. family
kickball, soccer or football game. Families can also
take it to the courts with a friendly game of tennis at
Mount Pleasant Tennis Center.
3. Cook with a fresh catch. With classes like
Creative Crabbing for the Family and Family Fishing
Fun, families can serve a seafood dinner straight
from the waters that surround them. Add summer
produce like local tomatoes and squash from the
Mount Pleasant Farmer’s Market, for classic
Lowcountry cuisine.
4. Play at Every Park in Town. Make a Mount
Pleasant Park bucket list including Pitt Street Bridge,
Memorial Waterfront Park, Park West Recreation
Complex Trails and Dog Park, Alhambra Hall and
Park and Shem Creek Recreation Park and try to
cross each off the list before school starts.
5. Unwind in the water. Family Fun Nights at R.L.
Jones Center (June 10, July 15 and August 12) and
Park West Pool (July 8 and August 19) invite residents
to relax after work for an open play night, pool toys
welcome. For a supercharged splash complete with
music and games, head to Summer Splash Bash and
Family Fun night at Park West Pool, June 2.
