This morning, while following the ambulance taking my Mother to the emergency
room, I received a call from my cousin letting me know that my last living Aunt passed
away last night. I began to reflect on all the great times I spent with my Mother and
her Sister.
I even remembered how it was this very Aunt who believed so much in my music, that
she even went so far as to go up against my Father telling him he should let me
purchase the piano I needed to buy to further my education.
I don’t know that Dad was so much against me purchasing the piano, as was the fact
it had to be financed to do so. And, that meant Dad had to cosign for me, as I was
underage.
My parents always paid cash for whatever they purchased, with the exception of our
home. If they didn’t have the money, they simply waited until they did or they didn’t
buy it at all.
My Aunt, however, had a different view on things. She could see the value of the
investment in my future. And, since I was working to pay for it, what would be the
harm?
I guess you could say, I owe her a debt of gratitude for my becoming a concert
pianist! For without her convincing Dad to cosign for me, I would never have been
able to purchase the piano to advance my skill level of performance!
Needless to say, today was filled with a lot a emotional feelings. On one hand, I am
deeply saddened about never getting to talk to my Aunt again. On the other hand, I
am concerned about Mom.
How can I possibly break the news to her? How will she take this news as this means
she is now the last surviving sibling?
I can’t imagine how it must feel to outlive your spouse, three sisters, a brother and

2. even a son. I’m sure it must feel surreal beyond what any words can ever try to
describe.
I remember just a few years ago thinking I really ought to take Mom on a trip to see
her my Aunt, but never found the time to do so. I was so busy trying to be successful
with my career, that what I had planned to do never came to fruition. Now, it is too
late.
I always said one day I would love to surprise Mom and take her on a trip to see her
favorite singer. That too never happened, and now, again, it is too late.
While, I am ever so thankful and it looks as though this trip to the hospital will only be a
minor setback for Mom, she is much too frail to be able to travel at this stage in her
life. Sure, I will try to spend as much time with her as I can, but I’m sure one day I will
look back and wish I had spent more.
Well, that’s it tonight. No witty words of wisdom. No profound thought provoking
quotes. Just me hoping that you will find a way to set your priorities right in your heart
and do what needs to be done right now.
Don’t put off until tomorrow, what you need to do today, for tomorrow may be too late.
