J.R.R. Tolkien was an English writer born on January 3, 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa who is best known for writing The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He lived in Birmingham, England and died on September 2, 1973 in Bournemouth, United Kingdom at the age of 81, having achieved fame for his works of fantasy fiction.
