William Shakespeare was an English playwright and poet born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 who wrote famous plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. He lived in Stratford-upon-Avon for most of his life and died there at the age of 51 in 1616.
