Fort
McMurray,
this
mixed
use
facility
houses
three
hockey
rinks,
12-‐sheet
curling
rink,
Olympic
size
pool,
leisure
pool,
hot
tub
and
golf
course.
Ini$al
upgrade
plans
required
significant
upgrades
to
the
municipal
sewer
and
water
system
for
the
increased
capacity.
The
proposed
budget
was
$24
Million.
TITUS
was
able
install
a
modular
wastewater
treatment
plant
and
heat
recovery
system
for
$14M.
The
TITUS
Plaborm
will
displace
2570
MWh
of
thermal
energy
and
20
million
gallons
per
year
reduc$on
in
water
supply
requirements.
Reclaimed
water
will
be
used
for
golf
course
irriga$on
and
toilet
flush
water
in
the
new
hotel.
Designed
to
house
2000
high
performance
athletes
and
form
phase
1
of
a
1,200
unit
residen$al
community.
Now
contains
400
affordable
housing
units
and
approx.
1,800
residence.
95%
of
the
hea$ng
and
cooling
for
the
Village
is
provided
by
the
clean
effluent
from
the
local
wastewater
treatment
plant
(10,000MWh),

a
47%
reduc$on
in
energy

a
master
planned
community
of
6,000
homes
and
5
million

commercial.
With
a
25
year
horizon,
the
TITUS
DESS
had
to
be
modular
to
allow
for
the
fluctua$ons
in
absorp$on
rate.
Thermal
energy
is
recovered
from
across
the
community
(including
an
ice
rink
and
a
future
wastewater
treatment
plant)
and
combined
with
a
212-‐hole,
geo-‐exchange
field
to
balance
the
hea$ng
and
cooling
needs
of
the
system.
The
DESS
is
also
designed
to
distribute
reclaimed
water,
reducing
water
supply
by
50%.
Currently,
350
homes
are
connected
to
the
system
realizing
a
54%
reduc$on
in
energy
requirement.
The
system
is
con$nuing
to
expand,
with
150
homes
in
construc$on.
