Title I provides funding to schools and districts with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students to help improve academic achievement. There are two types of Title I programs - schoolwide, which provides support to all students at high poverty schools, and targeted assistance, which provides support to only identified at-risk students. Schools qualify for Title I funds if 40% or more of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Title I requires parent involvement, adequate yearly progress, challenging curriculum, and that teachers be highly qualified. It also applies regulations regarding implementation, instructional requirements, parent involvement, impacts on students, and teacher qualifications.
