The Titanic hit an iceberg which caused flooding in its front compartments and caused the bow to sink and the stern to rise. As the ship continued sinking, its funnels lost one by one until it finally broke in half between the third and fourth funnels. The bow sank completely, pulling the stern vertically until it detached. The stern floated briefly before foundering completely. Titanic was lost for over 70 years until its wreck was discovered in 1985.
