RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 after striking an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. Over 1,500 of the 2,224 passengers and crew aboard died, making it one of the deadliest maritime disasters in modern history. Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time and boasted luxurious first-class accommodations, however she only carried enough lifeboats for about half of those aboard due to outdated safety regulations.
