Hadoop is an open-source software framework for distributed storage and processing of large datasets across clusters of commodity servers. It was designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines, with very high fault tolerance. Hadoop features two main components - the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) for storage, and MapReduce for distributed processing of large datasets in a parallel and distributed manner. Hadoop saw widespread adoption for applications such as log analysis, data mining, and large-scale graph processing.
The document provides an introduction to big data concepts including what big data is, how issues with processing large amounts of data were addressed, and what Apache Hadoop is. It then discusses two use case scenarios involving using Hadoop and Apache Cassandra to solve challenges around product recommendations and managing large volumes of email data at scale.

Cyber Security 101: What Your Agency Needs to KnowSandra Fathi
This document provides an overview and agenda for a presentation on cyber security for agencies. The presentation will cover:
1) An introduction to cyber security threats in an agency environment and what agencies need to know.
2) The legal ramifications of a cyber attack and an agency's responsibilities and liabilities.
3) Developing a crisis communications plan to respond when a cyber attack occurs and the steps agencies should take.
The document then outlines one section of the presentation on defending enterprise integrity and making information security part of an organization's culture. It stresses the importance of focusing on human factors rather than just cyber defenses.
The document summarizes QBE's cyber and data security insurance product. It covers risks associated with non-physical assets like data and network risks, providing public relations support, asset recovery costs, business interruption costs, regulatory fines, and privacy breach costs. It also covers employee dishonesty, cyber extortion, and IP infringement. Red24 provides 24/7 crisis management support. Claims are handled by experienced specialists familiar with technology and cybersecurity issues.

Doing research on potential technologies and consulting others' experiences can also help businesses make informed decisions to get the most value from their technology investments while mitigating risks.
Managing industrial facilities requires balancing safety, productivity, and compliance. Facility managers must oversee complex safety systems while facing resource constraints. This document provides four tips for industrial managers: 1) Choose an experienced fire protection contractor to design and install safety systems to ensure proper installation and compliance. 2) Engage a licensed service provider with certified personnel to properly test, inspect, and maintain safety systems. 3) Use a dedicated fire safety control system rather than production control systems to ensure components work as required and testing does not disrupt operations. 4) Partner with an experienced provider to gain expertise in system design, installation, and maintenance in order to strengthen safety programs.

2. Regulatory Reform Order -
Did you know?
During our time in helping customers with fire advisory support services, we have found some
common misconceptions regarding some of the terms contained in the Legislation – here are a
couple of examples.
Relevant Persons
This is commonly misunderstood as meaning employees only – it’s not - it means all persons that might enter the
premises, for whatever reason, including Fire Brigade personnel. Following an enquiry from a client with a large office
block, arrangements were found to have overlooked how to warn contractors of fire, in particular, when they were
outside suspended in an external cradle, cleaning windows. The RR(FS)O requires that fire safety arrangements extend
to all people that are likely to enter your premises.
Co-operation & Co-ordination
This is also a commonly overlooked item. Put simply, the Legislation requires that you find out and consider, who and
what is happening on and around your premises, both internally and externally, and how this might affect all parties in
a fire. This can only be done by investigative work, and reviewing how a fire might start, the arrangements in place, and
what you need to cover sufficiently in your own arrangements, as a result of the information. An example of this was a
client occupying one floor in a multi tenanted premises. They thought that having a fire plan for their own section of the
premises was sufficient. However, by communicating with other occupants, it was discovered that a mini laboratory
operation existed 3 floors down, that no one, (including the landlord), was aware of. The fire risks had a significant
bearing with escape arrangements. This was quickly rectified. The legislation and HM guides clearly defines the
requirement of Co-operation and Co-ordination and a number of checks must be undertaken to ensure that sufficient
knowledge is shared amongst all parties when it comes to managing fire safety.
HM Government guides are excellent and are obtainable as free of charge downloads on the web. Alternatively, if you
email the type of premises that you operate to noshortcuts@titanfiresec.com we will obtain it for you and email it back,
free of charge.

3. Stand by your pan
In a recent newsletter, the pub operator Wetherspoons, highlights the dangers of fire linked to
responsible consumption of alcohol. Titan commends Kent Fire & Rescue service by going one stage
further, with an excellent video production, parodying Dolly Parton’s “Stand by your man”.
It’s a very serious subject which is clearly explained in the video and once again worth passing the

New photo ID business
cards for Titan
They say that a picture tells a thousand words and it was on these
lines that new business cards for all of Titans customer facing
staff, including our engineering team, are now in use.
“You have your photo on your website, so why not on
your business cards”, says Sean Condon, Titans
General Manager. “We think it’s important
that our customers can see & recall the
person that is looking after their interests,
and if challenged whilst on site, can
readily prove their Identity. This is a
very important factor whilst on premises
such as schools, care homes or hospitals where
vulnerable occupants exist. Despite some initial natural
resistance to start, all of our staff can now see that its yet another simple
but effective differentiator that endorses our professional approach”.
Gent Fire Alarm Systems – Did you know?
Titan is an appointed Elite Systems Integrator for Gent by Honeywell fire systems. "What does that mean for me?", you
may well ask. In reply, Cliff Smith, senior project manager at Titan replies “it means you have a choice as to whom you
appoint to service your system and that you are definitely not stuck with the original installer, whoever it is.
It is best however that you take up references prior to appointment and make sure that despite being an approved integrator
that the Company has competent engineers in sufficient number, so that you get the service you need, and not depend on just
one trained engineer. Titan has taken over the servicing of many Gent by Honeywell fire system installations, including fixed
