Arkitekturbilleder.dk – how user involvement fueled development
How does a small institution with limited resources continue to stay up to date and develop their digital services?
For the Library of Architecture, Design, Conservation and Performing Arts, user involvement has been the key for several years and we have now taken a step further with our crowd-sourcing project for arkitekturbilleder.dk.
Arkitekturbilleder.dk is an Architectural picture database developed by The Library at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation. The database has documented Danish architecture since 2002 and features about 6500 pictures of 750 buildings and 350 different Danish architects. The pictures are taken by professional photographers with an architectural education.
As a case study, this presentation describes how a small, publicly-funded institution found the means in user involvement to fuel creative and technical development. This includes expert crowd sourcing and development of a mobile version and app. In times of severe and on-going cuts in public spending, Arkitekturbilleder.dk’s story might serve as inspiration for other institutions in similar positions.
