2. As an opening to a film how would you
show that 100 years have progressed
using only one set?
Show a long shot of the external house in the
country. The house may be warn and
broken, displaying the age. If deserted, the
house may have smashed windows and be
vandalized.
3. Using 4 shots how would you
demonstrate a year has gone by using
the same set as above?
Show a time-lapse of the house, and the
surroundings progressing through the years
seasons. A tree could be displayed in the shot
beside the house showing the seasonal effects
on it; changes in the leaves colour, etc.
The first shot would be spring, 2nd summer, 3rd
autumn and finally 4th winter.
4. Think of 3 other ways of informing the
audience a year has passed by.
Narration
Montage
Faded overlay of clock hands moving quickly
5. How would you show that 24 hours
have passed using the same subject?
A man sitting in a chair in his living room, 24
hours passes within a short time frame as his
day is sped up. He can be seen doing everyday
activities such as reading the newspaper. One
day of his life can be condensed into a minute
using this method. A window can be seen behind
him, showing any change in weather and the
position of the sun. If necessary a faded clock
can be layered over.
6. How would you make it clear to your
audience that the next part of the
narrative is a dream?
A faded transition into the dream scene.
The narration can be slightly echoed.
7. How would you make it clear to your
audience that the next part of the
narrative is a flashback?
The scene can be shown in black and white.
