The beginning of the opening starts off in medias res, it starts off with a dramatic situation which
leads to a chain of events which isn’t the beginning of the movie almost like the middle, and it seems
as it’s an extension of previous events and may be led into the later part of the movie. The effect this
has on the audience is it excites them and gets them stuck into the movie quickly which engages the
audience automatically.
The first shot used in the opening is an establishing shot, showing a mountain and water, probably
being the ocean. This tells the audience some information about the setting of the opening. It tells
the audience that the opening may be set in a hot country where there’s beaches, it also has the
connotation that the movie is a spy/detective sort of movie due to the setting; which sometimes is
typical in them type of movies. The mysterious music in the back ground also tells the audience that
the film may be about spies, as it fits well with the establishing shot.
At the same time both close up shots and montage are used to show the car, this gives us the
impression that the car is very glamorous, potentially being expensive. The series of pictures allows
the audience to see the car at different point of views and this conforms to Maslow’s hierarchy of
needs; I say this because the close ups of the car and the montage may allow the audience to feel
esteem, it would cause them to feel like they need that car in thei r lives for them to gain status and a
better reputation.
To focus the audience on the setting even more zoom is used to zoom into a building sitting within
the mountains. The effect the zoom has, as just said, is it focuses the audience on a certain point on
the screen. This zoom could cause the audience to be more intrigued with what’s being shown and
make relations within the setting and what’s about to happen, which is a positive effect on the
audience.
An extreme close up is used a few times to show someone’s face and the intensity of the
concentration within someone, just by looking at their eyes. This extreme close up introduces one of
the characters to the audience and the look in the persons face looks really intense, like there is a
high amount of concentration. The close up also intensifies the colour of the actors face and shows
the actor has blue eyes, in some case is really attractive to women, causing the female audience to
be more interested to find out if the person is good looking, it also makes them want to find and
more and so that the person is uncovered
