This document describes a field trial comparing the efficacy of THYMOX Technology footbaths containing 1% THYMOX versus copper sulfate (CuSO4) footbaths containing 5% CuSO4 in controlling digital dermatitis (DD) in dairy cow herds. Over 650 cows on multiple dairy farms were observed and scored for hoof lesions over 12 weeks while exposed to the two different footbath treatments. The results of the field trial showed that THYMOX footbaths were predicted to result in the same or lower levels of chronic DD lesions and the same or higher levels of healthy hooves compared to CuSO4 footbaths.

Goal: Compare the efficacy of THYMOX Technology® with the chemical of reference
(copper sulfate/CuSO4) in footbaths for the control of DD in endemic freestall dairy herds.
Method: During 12 weeks, footbaths of CuSO4 5% and THYMOX® 1% were done
and more than 650 cows were scored for hoof lesions at several points in time.
Treatment of active lesions: During the trial, all active, contagious
and painful lesions were topically treated with an antibiotic. “Efficient topical treatment
