2. THE BEGINNING
• This is where the protagonist is revealed to the audience with his surroundings
and the situation they are in.
• Such as The Fast and the Furious (2001) we see Brian Spilner (Paul Walker)
looking over his steering wheel in the Mitsubishi Eclipse. His surroundings are
shown as a drag racer and his situation is also revealed as he spins out of
control thus exposing his weakness.
3. THIS IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE EQUILIBRIUM
• The equilibrium is where everything is calm and to balance everything is
normal at this time in the film.
• For example in the film of The Fast and the Furious when Brian is driving
everything is calm even though he has spun out of control nobody has
shifted the equilibrium.
4. THE MIDDLE
• This is where the protagonist hits an obstacle on their way to achieving their
goal
• In The Fast and The Furious the obstacle was the police who arrested him
meaning his goal of becoming friends with Dominic Torreto as the police are
chasing him because he stole the truckload of DVD’s and VCR’s.
5. THIS IS ALSO KNOWN AS A DISEQUILIBRIUM
• A disequilibrium is a shift in the balance of the movie meaning the
protagonist has hit a snag in his quest or the antagonist has risen up.
• Dominic Torreto does not like Brian Spilner as he got in top a fight with his
friend and crew member. Whereas Brian wants to be friends with him.
• Fight Scene
6. THE ENDING
• This is where the protagonist has overcome their obstacle and have reached
their goal for the film
• Brian has become friends/acquaintance with Dominic as he lets him go this
shows he has reached his goal while avoiding the police obstacle
7. REINSTATING THE EQUILIBRIUM
• This is the third and final equilibrium step as it shows the protagonist defeating
the antagonists and reclaiming the previous equilibrium showing the
audience that the antagonist is gone.
