2. Overview
 TTDW was released on October 22 2013 in the UK
with a production budget of $170,000,000.
 Chris Hemsworth returns as Asgardian giant Thor,
preparing to battle against the alien race of the
Malekieth with brother, Loki.

3. Preproduction
 The film was produced by Marvel Studios, which is
owned by Walt Disney
 It was directed by Alan Taylor, who also directed
season one of Game of Thrones
 The film was produced by Kevin Feige, who is also
the president of Marvel Studios.
 It was confirmed Thor would begin a ‘new adventure’
after The Avengers
 Prequels: Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012)

4. Production
 Filming started in September 2012 in
Surrey, England.
 It was mainly filmed in the UK in areas such as
Greenwich, Wembley and Stonehenge for one
scene.
 Filming also branched out to Iceland, with the last
pieces of filming completed by December 2012.

5. Post-production
 It was announced in August that the film would be
released in IMAX 3D by digitally remastering it in
editing
 Additional scenes with Tom Hiddleston and Anthony
Hopkins were shot, to improve the relationship with
the audience after positive feedback of the
characters

6. Music
 For the film, Alan Taylor wanted Patrick Doyle to
score the film but it was announced in April 2013 that
Carter Burwell had been hired.
 He left after a month and was eventually replaced by
Brian Tyler, who had scored Iron Man 3.
 It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and
produced by Hollywood Studio (owned by Universal)

7. Pre-release
 Marvel released the first trailer for Thor in April 2013

 At Comic-Con in July, Tom Hiddleston dressed as
Loki to show a preview of the film, Gameloft also
announced a Thor video game, on Mobile platforms.

8. Premiere and release
 The premiere of Thor: The Dark World was held at
Leicester Square on October 22, 2013 before being
released on the October 30.
 The USA got the film a week later, November
 Every country the film was distributed to was
released within a month of the original UK release
except Japan which was released on February 1.

9. Reception
 The film had earned $641,307,423 as of March 2
around the world.
 It passed it’s predecessor, Thor, in 19 days.
 Before the first week ended of release, it had already
grossed $109.4million, stretching over 36 countries.
 It received a 65% approval rating on Rotten
Tomatoes with an average of 6.2 out of 10.

10. Sequel
 It was announced in January 2014 that Craig Kyle
and Christopher Yost would be writing a new Thor
movie, with Chris Hemsworth contracted to revive his
role as Thor in this film and two more Avengers
movies.
