Thomas Paine was a founding father of the United States and influential author known for his pamphlets Common Sense and Rights of Man. Common Sense advocated for American independence and was widely read, while Rights of Man supported the ideals of the French Revolution and enlightenment thinking. Paine lived from 1737 to 1809, playing a key role in the American and French revolutionary eras through his impactful political writings.
