Tom Lehrer was an American singer-songwriter, satirist and mathematician. He was born in 1928 to a Jewish family in New York City. As an undergraduate at Harvard studying mathematics, he began writing comic songs. He had a successful career writing satirical songs and performing, while also publishing papers in mathematics. Some of his most famous songs include "The Elements" and "New Math". Lehrer demonstrated how art and science can be combined, using his talents in both music and mathematics.

(1945). Those songs were later named The Physical
Revue, a joking reference to a leading scientific
journal, The Physical Review.
