Mountaineer Idol Gives Back is a fundraising event that will take place on October 4, 2013 at the WVU Mountainlair Ballrooms to collect donations, toy donations, and recycled Coca-Cola cans for the WVU Children's Hospital. The event will include a silent auction of items from local businesses and the sale of new stuffed animals to be donated. All proceeds from the event, as well as $5 per recycled can or bottle donated by Coca-Cola, will benefit the WVU Children's Hospital. MOUNTAINEER IDOL GIVES BACK TO MORGANTOWN COMMUNITY
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Mountaineer Idol Gives Back takes place on Oct. 4,
2013 at 8 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms where funds, toy donations and Coca-Cola
cans will be collected for the WVU Children’s Hospital. In addition to donations, a silent
auction will be held where exclusive items from local businesses will be auctioned off for
the cause. New stuffed animals will also be sold during the event for attendees to
purchase and donate to the WVU Children’s Hospital.
The WVU Children’s Hospital will receive all of the proceeds from the auction
and donations. Coca- Cola, the sponsor of West Virginia University’s Mountaineer Idol,
will be donating $5 per recycled can or bottle to the WVU Children’s Hospital as well.
The program has experienced tremendous growth, and raised over $1700 and 800
stuffed animals last year for the WVU Children’s Hospital. For 2013, their goal is to
collected 1,000 new animals. “There’s a lot of work put into pulling this off, but we are
excited to see the program continue to grow and are extremely hopeful we will reach our

In addition to fundraising, Mountaineer Idol Gives Back will prove to be a great
source of entertainment. Set during the university’s Fall Family Weekend, student’s
friends, families and classmates will get the opportunity to watch a round of the talent
competition. The remaining Mountaineer Idol contestants are set to perform country
music hits, and will face a dramatic elimination round afterwards. It is sure to be a night
of fun and excitement, but more importantly a life-changing evening for the children of
the community.
Mountaineer Idol Gives Back is a nonprofit organization that started in 2007.
Sonja Wilson, the coordinator for Mountaineer Idol Gives Back, discovered the
importance of contributing to the WVU Children’s Hospital, and began work to promote
