"This is It!" - part of the "Marked by Disciples" sermon series, was originally preached November 6, 2016, by Pastor Kevin Stone at Crosspoint Bible Church in Omaha, NE.
3. Mark 15:21-47
A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the
father of Alexander and Rufus, was
passing by on his way in from the
country, and they forced him to carry the
cross. 22 They brought Jesus to the place
called Golgotha
(which means “the place of the skull”).
4. Mark 15:21-47
23 Then they offered him wine mixed
with myrrh, but he did not take it. 24 And
they crucified him. Dividing up his
clothes, they cast lots to see what each
would get.
25 It was nine in the morning when they
crucified him.
5. Mark 15:21-47
26 The written notice of the charge
against him read:
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27 They crucified two rebels with him,
one on his right and one on his left.
6. Mark 15:21-47
29 Those who passed by hurled insults at
him, shaking their heads and saying, “So!
You who are going to destroy the temple
and build it in three days, 30 come down
from the cross and save yourself!”
7. Mark 15:21-47
31 In the same way the chief priests and
the teachers of the law mocked him
among themselves. “He saved others,”
they said, “but he can’t save himself! 32
Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come
down now from the cross, that we may
see and believe.” Those crucified with
him also heaped insults on him.
8. Mark 15:21-47
33 At noon, darkness came over the
whole land until three in the afternoon.
34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus
cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema
sabachthani?” (which means “My God,
my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
9. Mark 15:21-47
35 When some of those standing near
heard this, they said,
“Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with
wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and
offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave
him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to
take him down,” he said.
10. Mark 15:21-47
37 With a loud cry,
Jesus breathed his last.
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in
two from top to bottom. 39 And when
the centurion, who stood there in front
of Jesus, saw how he died, he said,
“Surely this man was the Son of God!”
11. Mark 15:21-47
40 Some women were watching from a
distance. Among them were Mary
Magdalene, Mary the mother of James
the younger and of Joseph, and Salome.
41 In Galilee these women had followed
him and cared for his needs. Many other
women who had come up with him to
Jerusalem were also there.
12. Mark 15:21-47
42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day
before the Sabbath). So as evening
approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a
prominent member of the Council, who
was himself waiting for the kingdom of
God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for
Jesus’ body.
13. Mark 15:21-47
44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he
was already dead. Summoning the
centurion, he asked him if Jesus had
already died. 45 When he learned from
the centurion that it was so, he gave the
body to Joseph.
14. Mark 15:21-47
46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth,
took down the body, wrapped it in the
linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of
rock. Then he rolled a stone against the
entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary
Magdalene and Mary the mother of
Joseph saw where he was laid.

17. Mark 15:33
33 At noon, darkness came over the
whole land until three in the afternoon.
18. Amos 8:9-10
In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“I will make the sun go down at noon
and darken the earth in broad daylight.
10 I will turn your religious festivals into
mourning and all your singing into
weeping…
20. 2 Peter 3:5-7
(scoffers) deliberately forget that long
ago by God’s word the heavens came
into being and the earth was formed out
of water and by water. 6 By these waters
also the world of that time was deluged
and destroyed.
21. 2 Peter 3:5-7
7 By the same word the present heavens
and earth are reserved for fire, being
kept for the day of judgment and
destruction of the ungodly.
23. Judgment – Jesus received our judgment
Justice – Jesus (God AND man)
provides justice.
24. Mark 15:34
34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus

sabachthani?” (which means “My God,
my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
25. Psalm 22:7-8

insults, shaking their heads. 8 “He trusts
in the LORD,” they say, “let the LORD
rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he
delights in him.”
26. Psalm 22:16-18
Dogs surround me, a pack of villains
encircles me; they pierce my hands and
my feet. 17 All my bones are on display;
people stare and gloat over me. 18 They
divide my clothes among them and cast
lots for my garment.
27. Psalm 22:19
But you, LORD, do not be far from me.
You are my strength; come quickly to
help me.
28. Psalm 22:24
For he has not despised or scorned the
suffering of the afflicted one; he has not
hidden his face from him but has
listened to his cry for help.
29. Psalm 22:27-28
All the ends of the earth will remember
and turn to the LORD, and all the
families of the nations will bow down
before him, 28 for dominion belongs to
the LORD and he rules over the nations.
30. “Jesus is at once fully God and fully
man, free from sin and sin itself, one
with the Father and all alone… Unless
Jesus is made sin which separates
Him from communion with His
Father, there is no hope for our
justification.”
31. Romans 5:8-9
But God demonstrates his own love for
us in this: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now
been justified by his blood, how much
more shall we be saved from God’s
wrath through him!

that he might become a merciful and
faithful high priest in service to God, and
that he might make atonement for the
sins of the people.
34. Hebrews 7:27
Unlike the other high priests, he does
not need to offer sacrifices day after day,

sins of the people. He sacrificed for their
sins once for all when he offered himself.

the good things that are now already
here, he went through the greater and

made with human hands, that is to say,
is not a part of this creation.
37. Hebrews 9:11-12
12 He did not enter by means of the

entered the Most Holy Place once for all
by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal
redemption.

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on
the cross, so that we might die to sins
and live for righteousness; “by his
wounds you have been healed.”
49. Hebrews 7:24-25
…because Jesus lives forever, he has a
permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is
able to save completely those who come
to God through him, because he always
lives to intercede for them.
50. “One of the profound paradoxes of
Christianity is to be found in the fact
that the one who was not able to
carry his own cross is the one who
enables us to carry ours.”
