You're organised, you love spreadsheets, you're a great cheerleader, you handle a backlog with superhero skills, and now you're faced with managing a Drupal project and everything just feels foreign. It's not you, it's Drupal. The mix of site building, front end development, backend development, and over 20,000 contributed modules makes project management for Drupal exceptionally frustrating for people who've not worked with Drupal before.
This session will cover:
- the basic Drupal development workflow (from a developer's perspective, but without using developer jargon)
writing useful tickets which developers can accomplish
- estimation tips for multi-discipline tickets (design / back end / front end)
- ideal team structures -- and what to do if you can't get them
Updated from DrupalCamp London to include the truisms I've learned about being a first-time project manager.
Beyond the Beginner - Path Ways to Advanced Drupal Levels & Businesseseverlearner
This presentation is trying to bridge a gap between Drupal starters and more advanced Drupal path ways.
If you have one or more experiences in Frontend, Backend (or programming in PHP), Project Management and Business but you don't know how to continue with Drupal, these slides will make your Drupal learning curve make easy for you.
The slides will introduce the path ways to become Drupal Themers, Site Builders, Module Developers, Drupal Project Managers and Drupal Shops.
Software development is not one size fits all. Domain-Driven Design is significant where there's high complexity and high value. In these areas different tools might be needed. EventStorming is the best way I know to gather requirements in a complex environment, and also maps with CQRS/ES architecture perfectly.

Devops is one of those "buzzwords", so abused, that could end meaning nothing.
This session is about Devops philosophy (as I see it), how to start doing Devops and how it can enrich our work.
Devops is not about the tools, it's about getting rid of those, often self-inflicted, barriers that made us siloed.
In this presentation i talk about the design process for mobile. From knowing your user goals and preferences, to your business needs, and the different factors you need to consider before building an app.
JAX London 2016: "Empathy - The hidden ingredient of good software development?"Daniel Bryant
When I ask fellow developers what they think about empathy, the answer is often “not much”. However, I believe that the skill of empathy, being able to place yourself in another’s position, is crucial to designing, building and operating software at any scale. Join me for a whistle-stop tour of the benefits of empathy, which I learned from working on a large variety of software projects over the past ten years. I will share success stories and battle scars, and suggest practical techniques that you can harness in order to help your team develop empathy.
How do we apply the fundamental principles to Permaculture Design?
It is easy to design if we are clear about the design principles, but much more difficult to really understand & integrate these principles in our practice.
In this class we go into more depth about the design principles, with lots of examples of each in order to understand them better.
Coming right from the Recommender Systems conference in San Francisco, I present some latest developments in the field of large scale recommendation engines and machine learning.
When approached with a question, librarians create context for understanding using communication skills and their ability to navigate available resources. IAs can do a similar thing for co-workers inside an organization.
Using my ongoing experience in Special Projects, we’ll look at how IA tools, processes, and thinking can be used to solve support and maintenance issues in an organization. I’ve worked with people in different product groups and roles, including those with direct customer interaction, developers, testers, and various levels of management. I’ve helped them see connections between existing products and technologies, design a complex future product as part of a “task force”, and generally answer (and be able to ask!) all sorts of questions.
Along the way, I’ve discovered and added various tools to my bag of tricks. We’ll take a look at these unexpected tools and how they can be used to explore certain types of information problems.
Here are some tips on hiring and retaining top Big Data talent. Features : how to source candidates, how to interview them, interview techniques and mistakes.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
