Navigate with spatial sound on mobile using Unity & Google Maps APIs
1. Spatial sound for navigation

2. Forecast
• A Spatial sound have a data of volume and bearing. A listener
can find the bearing and distance tanks to these data. I think
that we can make new style of navigation system by using
spatial sound system. I am going to make the navigation
system for mobile phone like iPhone and android device. To
make the mobile application, I use the Unity for creating
spatial sound and google maps api for getting map data. The
application used for not only navigating user but also giving
new accent for the travel.
4. Motivation and problem statement
Spatial sound can be used for navigation because it have data of
bearing. I think that we can make new style of navigation
system by using the sound. To getting the way information by
sound, we don’t have to pay attention to the map at the mobile
phone. It is danger that walking while pay attention at the
mobile phone screen. It might be barge into a person. The
spatial sound navigation system can remove these hazard.

There are methods of getting geographic information and
compass data. To

interface for a Global Positioning System that I designed to allow
mobile computer users to carry out a location task while their
eyes, hands and attention are often otherwise engaged.
6. Key results
The application is made by unity. It is a cross-platform game
engine with a built-in IDE developed by Unity Technologies.
It is use to develop video games for web plugins, desktop
platforms, consoles and mobile devices.
To make map data, I use google static maps api. This let us
embed a google map image on our web page without requiring
JavaScript or any dynamic page loading.
7. Key results
I made a prototype of the application. It gets a geographic data
from mobile device. Now it get a longitude and latitude and
compass data. Next it request map image to google maps api.
Then, It calculate the distance of between user and goal and a
point of the compass. After that, it generate spatial sound.
9. Summary
• The application could get the geographic data and create map.
• It could create the map by google static maps api
• It could generate the spatial sound by unity.
10. Future work
This application have some problems. Therefore the future work
is fixing these problems.
• It could not getting map real time(Now getting 1map pre
2secound).
• There is not moving map function.
• Spatial sound is hard to make out backward to forward.
