This document summarizes a research report on the challenges of transitioning young athletes into the Australian Football League (AFL) and the strategies used by Player Development Managers (PDMs) at six AFL clubs. Semi-structured interviews with PDMs found that current transition strategies are individualized and holistic, providing care and empowerment for each athlete. The PDM plays an important role by building relationships to effectively support athletes through the transition process. The results provide insights to expand career transition models to account for relocation factors faced by interstate athletes and help clubs reduce athletes returning to their home state.

Through qualitative interviews with 32 SGBs, it identifies common performance dimensions, strategic objectives, and key performance indicators. Using institutional theory, resource dependence theory, and stakeholder theory, it analyzes how SGBs' performance management practices are affected by external pressures. The purpose of this study was to appraise the adequacy of strategic management processes of National Sports Associations (NSAs) in Zimbabwe. Most of Zimbabwe NSAs perform poorly as evidenced by the perennial failure of national teams to qualify for major regional and international tournament. Their strategic management processes appear to be inadequate to meet the modern day environmental challenges. The study used the descriptive survey as the design. A sample of fifty three National Sports Association and Provincial Sports Association chairpersons were randomly selected from a population of seventy nine chairpersons. Hand delivered questionnaires with both open ended and closed questions were used to collect data. Results from the study indicate that most NSAs have core values, corporate objectives, policies and make use of physical structures. However the results also show that the majority of NSAs do not have strategic plans, do not practice strategic management and do not conduct strategic reviews. The results led to the conclusion that the strategic management processes in NSAs are inadequate. The study recommended that NSAs should prioritize strategic management and that both the Sports and Recreation Commission and Zimbabwe Olympic Committee should assist NSAs technically and financially to facilitate the adoption of strategic management principles

This study examined the relationship between high school football coaches' transformational leadership style and players' sport commitment in Iran. It hypothesized that player satisfaction would mediate this relationship. 280 high school football players aged 15-20 completed surveys measuring coaches' transformational leadership, player satisfaction, and sport commitment. Structural equation modeling found a positive relationship between transformational leadership and player satisfaction, and between satisfaction and sport commitment. Player satisfaction was shown to partially mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and sport commitment. The results suggest that when Iranian high school football coaches display transformational leadership behaviors, it increases player satisfaction and in turn increases players' commitment to sport.

This study examined award-winning athletes' perceptions of coaching behavior and psychological factors that influence their sports performance. The study surveyed 49 athletes and 9 coaches from a state university in the Philippines. Results showed that coaching style and mental toughness had the greatest positive impact on athletic performance, while anxiety had a slight negative effect. There was little difference between how coaches and athletes rated coaching behaviors like motivation and communication skills. Coaching style was found to be the strongest predictor of athletic achievement over other psychological variables. The study concluded coaching behaviors and mental toughness significantly influence athletes' performance, and qualitative research should further explore other performance-related factors.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the leadership preferences for the set of five dimensions of leader behaviour i.e. training and instruction, democratic behaviour, autocratic behaviour, social support and positive feedback of State level competition Basketball players. Present Study , the following conclusions are enumerated state level male and female Basket ball players exhibited different preferences on five dimensions of leader behaviour.Sixty Two (62) Male =35 & female=27 Basketball players representing their respective distt. in State level Basketball competition held at janjgir (chanmpa) 2013-14, who volunteered to participate in this study, were selected to serve as subjects for this study. The subjects were in age ranged from 19 above years. To find out the significance of difference between means of preferences on leader behaviour dimension of State level competition Basketball players, t-ratio was computed. The Basketball players expressed significantly different preferences on training and instruction (8.29), social support (2.52) and autocratic behaviour (9.38) dimension. They had similar preferences on positive feedback (0.30), and democratic behavior (0.53) dimensions.

Dissertation Complete
This dissertation investigates the motivations of males and females for participating in obstacle course races. The author conducted a survey of over 600 obstacle course race participants to determine their motivations. The survey was based on an existing motivation scale for marathon runners but was adapted for obstacle course races. The results showed that both males and females rated personal achievement, affiliation with obstacle course racing, and health orientation as very important motivations. Competition was more important for males than females but was not as important as other motivations for either gender. The study concluded that fun, excitement and the uncertain nature of obstacle courses are also key motivations for participants, and may be even more important for sustaining participation than other motivational factors.

Athletes Satisfaction As Mediator Of Transformational Leadership Behaviors O...
This study examined the relationship between high school football coaches' transformational leadership style and players' sport commitment in Iran. It hypothesized that player satisfaction would mediate this relationship. 280 high school football players aged 15-20 completed surveys measuring coaches' transformational leadership, player satisfaction, and sport commitment. Structural equation modeling found a positive relationship between transformational leadership and player satisfaction, and between satisfaction and sport commitment. Player satisfaction was shown to partially mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and sport commitment. The results suggest that when Iranian high school football coaches display transformational leadership behaviors, it increases player satisfaction and in turn increases players' commitment to sport.

This study examined award-winning athletes' perceptions of coaching behavior and psychological factors that influence their sports performance. The study surveyed 49 athletes and 9 coaches from a state university in the Philippines. Results showed that coaching style and mental toughness had the greatest positive impact on athletic performance, while anxiety had a slight negative effect. There was little difference between how coaches and athletes rated coaching behaviors like motivation and communication skills. Coaching style was found to be the strongest predictor of athletic achievement over other psychological variables. The study concluded coaching behaviors and mental toughness significantly influence athletes' performance, and qualitative research should further explore other performance-related factors.

Towards the development of support program for athletes
This document summarizes a research study that examined the counseling and psychological needs of collegiate athletes to serve as the basis for developing an enhanced sports support program. The study involved 200 student athletes, 13 coaches/trainers, and 4 sports administrators at a state university who completed needs assessments. Results showed that self-development, time management, financial management, relationships, team building, physical needs, and academic studies were perceived as extremely important to athletes' holistic development. The findings provide insight into developing a counseling-based support program using interventions to address athletes' identified needs.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the leadership preferences for the set of five dimensions of leader behaviour i.e. training and instruction, democratic behaviour, autocratic behaviour, social support and positive feedback of State level competition Basketball players. Present Study , the following conclusions are enumerated state level male and female Basket ball players exhibited different preferences on five dimensions of leader behaviour.Sixty Two (62) Male =35 & female=27 Basketball players representing their respective distt. in State level Basketball competition held at janjgir (chanmpa) 2013-14, who volunteered to participate in this study, were selected to serve as subjects for this study. The subjects were in age ranged from 19 above years. To find out the significance of difference between means of preferences on leader behaviour dimension of State level competition Basketball players, t-ratio was computed. The Basketball players expressed significantly different preferences on training and instruction (8.29), social support (2.52) and autocratic behaviour (9.38) dimension. They had similar preferences on positive feedback (0.30), and democratic behavior (0.53) dimensions.

Motivation To Give Back

Dissertation Complete
This dissertation investigates the motivations of males and females for participating in obstacle course races. The author conducted a survey of over 600 obstacle course race participants to determine their motivations. The survey was based on an existing motivation scale for marathon runners but was adapted for obstacle course races. The results showed that both males and females rated personal achievement, affiliation with obstacle course racing, and health orientation as very important motivations. Competition was more important for males than females but was not as important as other motivations for either gender. The study concluded that fun, excitement and the uncertain nature of obstacle courses are also key motivations for participants, and may be even more important for sustaining participation than other motivational factors.

ABSTRACT Recent research has identified gaps in academic knowledge and opened avenues for further research in sport development, and specifically the transition of athletes moving into new athletic environments. Until now, the majority of research has been towards understanding the transition process of athletes ending their careers due to retirement. This has had a great influence in determining the focus of this current study, towards the transition of young athletes as they make their transition moving up into the professional sports level of the Australian Football League (AFL). A qualitative study was undertaken, utilising semi-structured interviews with Player Development Managers (PDMs) currently employed at six different AFL clubs, to disseminate contemporary knowledge of the field. These interviews focused on the respondents’ own perspectives on experiences and strategies taken place within their clubs. This study provides implications to both theory and practice for PDMs and sporting organisations. The findings from this research were found in the hope to provide practical examples to assist others in the planning, application, development and evaluation of their own strategies. Results of this study show that current strategies are created as holistic and individually focused for each athlete, providing genuine care and empowerment. The PDM is considered an important tool in the transition process as effective strategies are built upon formed relationships with the transitioning athlete. Theoretically, the results provided scope to build upon existing athlete career models, to incorporate ‘relocation’ factors for athletes transitioning from interstate or further. Through understanding this can assist clubs in combating against the ‘go-home’ factor in their athletes, and losing them to their home state of origin.
