King Aegean of Athens was tired of sending 7 boys and 7 girls to Crete every year to be sacrificed to the Minotaur, a half-man half-bull monster. His son Theseus volunteered to go to Crete and try to kill the Minotaur. With help from the princess of Crete, Theseus used a sword and string to navigate the labyrinth and kill the Minotaur, freeing the Greeks from having to sacrifice people. However, on the way home Theseus forgot to change the ship's black sails to white to signal success, and King Aegean believed his son had died and committed suicide by jumping into the sea.
