In the mid 1970s, a nursing educator in Idaho had contact, through a student, with a female client who had chronic myelogenous leukemia. This form of leukemia can often be managed for years with little or no chemotherapy. The woman had done well for about twelve years and ascribed her good condition to health foods and a strict nutritional regime. However, her condition had turned worse several weeks before and her physician had advised her that she needed chemotherapy if she were to have any chance at survival. The physician had also advised her of the potential side effects of the therapy including hair loss, nausea, fever, and immune system suppression.
The woman consented to the therapy and signed the appropriate forms, but later, she began to have second thoughts. The nursing educator and student had given the patient one dose of the therapy when the woman began to cry and express her reservations about the therapy. She questioned the nurse about alternative treatments to the use of chemotherapy. The patient related that she had accepted the therapy because her son had advised her that this was the best treatment. She related that she had not asked about alternate forms of treatment as the physician had indicated that chemotherapy was the only treatment indicated. The nurse did not discuss the patient's concerns with the physician, and later that evening, she talked to the patient about alternate therapies. In the discussion, rather nontraditional and controversial therapies were covered including reflexology and the use of laetrile. During the talk, the nurse made it very clear that the treatments under discussion were not sanctioned by the medical community.
The patient's feelings toward alternate therapies were strengthened by the evening's conversation; however, she continued with chemotherapy. The treatments, however, did not bring remission to her crisis and she died two weeks later. Upon hearing about the conversation between the off duty nurse educator and his patient, the physician brought charges against the nurse for unprofessional conduct and interfering with the patient-physician relationship. Comprehensive Client Assessment
Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) provide care to clients with mental health disorders and substance use disorders who may be in vulnerable states during their initial contact with the PMHNP, when they seek treatment. No single approach to mental health treatment is suitable for all clients, and it is critical for the PMHNP to conduct a thorough assessment to accurately diagnose each client and determine which treatment approach is most likely to enhance the client’s clinical outcomes (American Nurses Association, 2014; Ball, Dains, Flynn, Solomon, & Stewart, 2018; Marcogliese & Vandyk, 2019; McAllister, Happell, & Flynn, 2014; Wheeler, 2014). A comprehensive client assessment should be performed by the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner during a client’s initial appointment, to facilitate formulation of an appropriate, client-centered treatment plan. A comprehensive client assessment engages the client in their treatment plan, establishes rapport and contributes to a therapeutic alliance between the practitioner and the client, and collects information about the client to facilitate development of a compassionate understanding of the client, an accurate diagnosis, and an appropriate client-centered treatment plan (Ball et al., 2018; Wheeler, 2014). The purpose of this assignment is to assess a client presenting for psychotherapy and to develop a genogram for the client, to gather the information needed to make an informed diagnosis and to formulate an appropriate client-centered treatment plan that will enhance client outcomes.

The client is a 23-year-old Caucasian male who speaks English and who resides with his parents and his youngest brother in their home in a coastal town in New England. The client has never been married and does not have any children. The client identifies as Christian. The client identifies as a straight male. The client is covered via Blue Cross Blue Shield, under his parents’ health insurance. The client’s father owns his own real estate and contracting business and his parents are upper-class residents of a coastal town in New England and own a second, winter-home, in one of the southern states. She was admitted to the medical intensive care units in status epilepticus and was quickly stabilized with intramuscular lorazepam and fosphenytoin loading. Her heigh is 5 feet 6 inches, she is of medium build, and her weight is 101 lbs. (BMI16.3kg/m2). She does not suffer any medical conditions, and this is her first seizure. This week’s discussion questions caused a lot of reflection on how I practice nursing. The questions led me to reflect on what type of nurse I am. Am I doing the best I can, or have I done the best I could? While considering the six ways of knowing I kept coming back to unknowing. The act of being unaware or not being able to fully understand what the patient is experiencing or going through (Heath, 1998). That is how I approach every patient. I have no preconceived notion that I have even the faintest idea of what they must be feeling. It is the ability to be fully present of yourself and open to the patient and their life. The other is empirical knowing. Empirical knowing is the first introduction we have in nursing school. Understanding the science, the epidemiology, the physical nature of the illness or medical situation. I believe there is a lot of value in empirical knowing, as the patients want us to know why and how to do what we do. They place a lot of trust in us to do the right thing. It is part of our daily responsibility to assess and monitor therapeutic response to treatment (Zander, 2007).
Though the entire 6 ways of knowing were brand new to me and it took me some time to reflect on my understanding of these concepts, I fear the two I have put the least focus on in the past but am keenly aware of their implications are emancipatory and aesthetic knowing. This is not to say that I did not practice the art of nursing, using my years of experience to draw on and I am astutely aware of the social, cultural, and political implications of those in my care. I never was able to put a name or definition to them. Emancipatory knowing, the ability to be astutely aware of the social injustices and be able to act in a way to reduce the negative impact of these inequalities (Peart & MacKinnon 2018). Aesthetic knowing, the ability to interpret the patient’s behavior or expression of self and then asking what this means (Zander, 2007). Aesthetic knowing in a simpler phrase might be considered that gut feeling a nurse often refers to.
I am reminded of a recent experience I had when I was given the privilege to assist another nurse on a home visit. This nurse is an incredible pediatric nurse. I admire her aesthetic way of knowing and how she is so patient and kind with the children she cares for. This young boy, age 11, was recently diagnosed with Pediatric Autoimmune Neurological Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS). It is a horrid and unexpected disease that takes an otherwise perfectly healthy child and they become severely paranoid, have expressions of sudden onset OCD type behaviors, and a myriad of other symptoms (International OCD Foundation, n.d.). This young boy was to receive Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) at his home, requiring placement of a peripheral IV. I was called in for re.

· She reported that she currently doesn't have any thoughts of hurting self however has a history of suicidal thoughts including attempts. Stated that she has had suicidality all throughout the Fall of 2019. She also has history of suicide attempts prior to the most recent attempt stating that in the past she "has many overdoses mostly on pills that were prescribed and Tylenol". She reported a history of self-harming thoughts and behaviors. Stated that in the summer and fall of 2019 she has cut self and prior to that she hasn't cut herself since her early 20s.
· Client works at a Senior day program in Ypsilanti and has housing at this time however is at risk of losing employment and housing due to her worsening symptoms and inability to care for herself.

· Biological domain: Client is a 35years old female-single with two children. White. She reported that she was previously on the following: Paxil, Celexa, Lexapro however all have been discontinued and uncertain why.
· Psychological domain: Denied any auditory of visual hallucinations or paranoia. She reported that she currently doesn't have any thoughts of hurting self however has a history of suicidal thoughts including attempts. Stated that she has had suicidality all throughout the Fall of 2019 with an attempt in august.
· Social domain: Born and raised in Dexter by both parents. Her parents are still together and alive. She has three siblings (two brothers and a sister) and client is the middle child. She stated that her siblings and her "get along but aren't super close". She reported a history of sexual assault.
She shares custody of her 4years old son with her ex. Her son has been staying mostly with his father due to her worsening depression. She stated that she hopes to get better soon so he can return to her home. She stated that when she spends time with her 4 years old son she feels "drained" after her son leaves. She worked at the senior center after earned a Bachelors in Social Work at EMU. Is at risk of losing her employ.

Introduction
Psychosis is a mental condition in which a person's ideas and perceptions are disrupted,
and the individual may have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what is not.
A health condition, medications, or drug usage can all contribute to psychosis. Delusions,
hallucinations, incomprehensible speech, and agitation are all possible signs; the patient has
incorrect beliefs and sees or hears things that others do not see or hear. The person suffering from
the disease is usually unaware of his or her actions. Medication, psychotherapy, peer support,
family support and education, and talk therapy are all options for treatment. More or less every
mental intervention is backed by evidence accumulated during the patient's initial interview; each
patient's therapy begins with a thorough medical and mental health evaluation, the incorporation
of trust, and a discussion of past mental health history, substance misuse history, family mental
health history, and so on. In this example, the patient's evaluation was documented, and a
diagnosis was made based on the information collected from the patient during the evaluation.
When the case was being developed, a therapeutic approach was designed. The patient is a 53-
year-old Caucasian male who was scheduled for an initial screening for a psychotic disorder after
his sister recommended a visit to the psychiatrist because patient's behavior changed since the
mother passed away.

CC: "I was brought here by my sister because since my mother passed away, I was living on my
own and not bothering anyone. Those people outside my window they are after me. They just
want me dead".
HPI: When patient was asked " what people?". Patient said " the government sent them to get
me because my taxes are high". Suddenly patient asked the provider if she can see the birds or
hear any loud noise. The provider responded by redirecting the patient that she does not hear any
voice or see anything. When the provider how long he is been hearing the voices or seeing
things, patient said " for weeks, weeks and weeks". Patient also said the sister tapped her phone
with the government. When asked about sleep, patient said " I have not slept well because the
voices keep me up for days. I try to watch the TV, they poison my food on TV, I locked

Research in clinical suicidology continues to rapidly expand, much of it with implications
for day-to-day clinical practice. Clinicians routinely wrestle with how best to integrate
recent advances into practice and how to do so in efficient and effective fashion. This
article identifies five critical domains of recent research findings and offers examples
of simple questions that can easily be integ.

Comprehensive Client Assessment
Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) provide care to clients with mental health disorders and substance use disorders who may be in vulnerable states during their initial contact with the PMHNP, when they seek treatment. No single approach to mental health treatment is suitable for all clients, and it is critical for the PMHNP to conduct a thorough assessment to accurately diagnose each client and determine which treatment approach is most likely to enhance the client’s clinical outcomes (American Nurses Association, 2014; Ball, Dains, Flynn, Solomon, & Stewart, 2018; Marcogliese & Vandyk, 2019; McAllister, Happell, & Flynn, 2014; Wheeler, 2014). A comprehensive client assessment should be performed by the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner during a client’s initial appointment, to facilitate formulation of an appropriate, client-centered treatment plan. A comprehensive client assessment engages the client in their treatment plan, establishes rapport and contributes to a therapeutic alliance between the practitioner and the client, and collects information about the client to facilitate development of a compassionate understanding of the client, an accurate diagnosis, and an appropriate client-centered treatment plan (Ball et al., 2018; Wheeler, 2014). The purpose of this assignment is to assess a client presenting for psychotherapy and to develop a genogram for the client, to gather the information needed to make an informed diagnosis and to formulate an appropriate client-centered treatment plan that will enhance client outcomes.
Demographic Information
The client is a 23-year-old Caucasian male who speaks English and who resides with his parents and his youngest brother in their home in a coastal town in New England. The client has never been married and does not have any children. The client identifies as Christian. The client identifies as a straight male. The client is covered via Blue Cross Blue Shield, under his parents’ health insurance. The client’s father owns his own real estate and contracting business and his parents are upper-class residents of a coastal town in New England and own a second, winter-home, in one of the southern states. The client arrived to his appointment via his vehicle, which he says he owns.
Presenting Problem
The client reports “anger outbursts and mood swings for my whole life” and issues with alcohol consumption.
History of Present Illness
The client describes a several-year history of anger outbursts and mood swings, beginning when he was approximately eight-years-old, and occurring multiple times per week. The client reports that in the past, during angry outbursts, he has behaved in a destructive manne.

Case#2
Ms. Torrez is a 17-year-old Caucasian woman without prior psychiatric history who is brought to the Emergency room by ambulance after her parents called 911 when they found her having a seizure in their living room. She was admitted to the medical intensive care units in status epilepticus and was quickly stabilized with intramuscular lorazepam and fosphenytoin loading. Her heigh is 5 feet 6 inches, she is of medium build, and her weight is 101 lbs. (BMI16.3kg/m2). She does not suffer any medical conditions, and this is her first seizure. Laboratory workup shows an electrolyte imbalance as the most likely cause of the seizures. Although initially reluctant, she admits to purging with the use of ipecac several times this week. She reports that although she normally restricts her daily caloric intake to 500 calories, she regularly induces vomiting if her weight is above 100 lbs. Her last menstrual cycle was 1 year ago. Patient appears underweight and younger than her stated age. She is mild distress, has a nasogastric tube in place, and exhibits poor eye contact. She reports feeling “sad” and admitted to experiencing constant preoccupation about her physical appearance and says, “I am fat; I hate my body.” She also reports insomnia, low energy levels, and history of self-harm behavior by cutting her forearms. She reports that she is careful hiding her symptoms from her parents, whom she describes as strict disciplinarians. She also expresses concerns that she will disappoint them.
Ms. Torrez’ parents describe her as a perfectionist. They say that she is involve in multiple school activities, takes advanced placement classes, and has been recently concerned about being accepted at her college of choice. They report that she maintains a 4.0 grade point average in high school, and they are expecting her to become a lawyer. Her parents have noticed that she is underweight and rarely see her eat but attributed this to stress from her many academic pursuits. This week’s discussion questions caused a lot of reflection on how I practice nursing. The questions led me to reflect on what type of nurse I am. Am I doing the best I can, or have I done the best I could? While considering the six ways of knowing I kept coming back to unknowing. The act of being unaware or not being able to fully understand what the patient is experiencing or going through (Heath, 1998). That is how I approach every patient. I have no preconceived notion that I have even the faintest idea of what they must be feeling. It is the ability to be fully present of yourself and open to the patient and their life. The other is empirical knowing. Empirical knowing is the first introduction we have in nursing school. Understanding the science, the epidemiology, the physical nature of the illness or medical situation. I believe there is a lot of value in empirical knowing, as the patients want us to know why and how to do what we do. They place a lot of trust in us to do the right thing. It is part of our daily responsibility to assess and monitor therapeutic response to treatment (Zander, 2007).
Though the entire 6 ways of knowing were brand new to me and it took me some time to reflect on my understanding of these concepts, I fear the two I have put the least focus on in the past but am keenly aware of their implications are emancipatory and aesthetic knowing. This is not to say that I did not practice the art of nursing, using my years of experience to draw on and I am astutely aware of the social, cultural, and political implications of those in my care. I never was able to put a name or definition to them. Emancipatory knowing, the ability to be astutely aware of the social injustices and be able to act in a way to reduce the negative impact of these inequalities (Peart & MacKinnon 2018). Aesthetic knowing, the ability to interpret the patient’s behavior or expression of self and then asking what this means (Zander, 2007). Aesthetic knowing in a simpler phrase might be considered that gut feeling a nurse often refers to.
I am reminded of a recent experience I had when I was given the privilege to assist another nurse on a home visit. This nurse is an incredible pediatric nurse. I admire her aesthetic way of knowing and how she is so patient and kind with the children she cares for. This young boy, age 11, was recently diagnosed with Pediatric Autoimmune Neurological Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS). It is a horrid and unexpected disease that takes an otherwise perfectly healthy child and they become severely paranoid, have expressions of sudden onset OCD type behaviors, and a myriad of other symptoms (International OCD Foundation, n.d.). This young boy was to receive Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) at his home, requiring placement of a peripheral IV. I was called in for re.

Introduction
Psychosis is a mental condition in which a person's ideas and perceptions are disrupted,
and the individual may have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what is not.
A health condition, medications, or drug usage can all contribute to psychosis. Delusions,
hallucinations, incomprehensible speech, and agitation are all possible signs; the patient has
incorrect beliefs and sees or hears things that others do not see or hear. The person suffering from
the disease is usually unaware of his or her actions. Medication, psychotherapy, peer support,
family support and education, and talk therapy are all options for treatment. More or less every
mental intervention is backed by evidence accumulated during the patient's initial interview; each
patient's therapy begins with a thorough medical and mental health evaluation, the incorporation
of trust, and a discussion of past mental health history, substance misuse history, family mental
health history, and so on. In this example, the patient's evaluation was documented, and a
diagnosis was made based on the information collected from the patient during the evaluation.
When the case was being developed, a therapeutic approach was designed. The patient is a 53-
year-old Caucasian male who was scheduled for an initial screening for a psychotic disorder after
his sister recommended a visit to the psychiatrist because patient's behavior changed since the
mother passed away.

CC: "I was brought here by my sister because since my mother passed away, I was living on my
own and not bothering anyone. Those people outside my window they are after me. They just
want me dead".
HPI: When patient was asked " what people?". Patient said " the government sent them to get
me because my taxes are high". Suddenly patient asked the provider if she can see the birds or
hear any loud noise. The provider responded by redirecting the patient that she does not hear any
voice or see anything. When the provider how long he is been hearing the voices or seeing
things, patient said " for weeks, weeks and weeks". Patient also said the sister tapped her phone
with the government. When asked about sleep, patient said " I have not slept well because the
voices keep me up for days. I try to watch the TV, they poison my food on TV, I locked

Pathological Conditions in Older Adults
As one goes through the natural aging process, the body's capacity to defend itself against infections diminishes. The immune system's ability to offer protection is reduced, and the individual becomes susceptible to conditions that affect them more than other age groups (Haynes, 2020). This population also experiences other symptoms impairing other aspects of their lives as time passes. For instance, their skin and bones lose their integrity and become more prone to abrasions and breakage. This assignment module will examine the pathological conditions that affect the sexual response in older adults and how and why nutritional and psychological factors, drugs, and other alternative and complementary medications affect the immune system of the populations.
Pathological Conditions that Affect Sexual Response in Older Adults
Sexuality is an essential aspect of life, irrespective of the age group one is in—the older population and the younger generation alike need to explore sexuality to maintain health and well-being. Exploring sexuality is also a mixture of biological, psychological, social, and religious factors, all of which have plenty to do with aging. Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause
These are the changes experienced in the genitourinary pathway as one age. The individual can feel a burning sensation, dryness, or irritation. This can lead to painful sexual encounters, which can, in turn, reduce their desire to engage and their response.
Dementia
This is a degenerative disorder of the mental faculties, predominantly among the elderly (National Institute on Aging, n.d.). Their judgment diminishes, making them disinterested or utterly unaware of their sexual experiences. Some forms of the condition have been shown to increase sex or closeness, but the individual may fail to recognize what is appropriate and what is not.
Diabetes
As a chronic condition experienced mainly by this population, it can lead to yeast generation, leading to itchiness around the sex organs, making sex unpalatable. The situation can, however, be addressed with medication.

· Explain how you would disseminate the results of your project to an audience. Provide a rationale for why you selected this dissemination strategy.
· Describe the measurable outcomes you hope to achieve with the implementation of this evidence-based change.
· Be sure to provide APA citations of the supporting evidence-based peer reviewed articles you selected to support your thinking.

MAPPING AND ANALYZING VALUE STREAMS
What It Means
The mapping and analysis of value streams is an undertaking focused on gaining insight into the current
state of workflow. It includes creating diagrams that show the various steps a product or service
undergoes from request to delivery. The format of the maps should not be overly complex, and they do
not require any specialized software to create. Their purpose is to help management and workers “see”
the flow of work tasks that are often difficult to visualize, and to analyze that flow from a customer-centric
perspective that is explicitly focused on adding value.
Why It Matters
• It aligns stakeholders around a common understanding of the starting point before any
operational change initiatives are undertaken.
• It focuses on value as the critical metric of operational excellence and competitive advantage,
and it identifies steps where no value is added and/or waste occurs.
• It requires the team to apply quantifiable performance metrics to the current state so that
improvement efforts can be measured and validated.

Datril: Pioneering the Acetaminophen Market
Marvin Koslow, vice president for marketing services at Bristol-Myers, had just finished a
strategic planning meeting with his staff. The meeting was supposed to delineate a strategy for
Bristol-Myers’ newest offering: a non-prescription acetaminophen1 drug branded as Datril, which
was to be launched later in the spring of 1975. Despite many hours of deliberation, a clear solu-
tion failed to emerge. The main unresolved issue was how to position Bristol-Myers’ new drug to
the general public and, in particular, how to price and promote Datril.
Bristol-Myers was one of the nation’s leading marketers of pharmaceutical and consumer prod-
ucts, with a portfolio of well-known brands such as Bufferin, Excedrin, Windex, Drano, Vitalis, Be-
hold, and Clairol. Bristol-Myers was comprised of three major product groups: the Consumer Prod-
ucts Group, which accounted for 25.8% of the company’s total sales in 1974; the Clairol Group; and
the Pharmaceutical, Health Care, and International Group, which accounted for 51.8% of the compa-
ny’s total sales in 1974. In 1974, Bristol-Myers reported net earnings exceeding $120 million on $1.6
billion in net sales. The cost of goods sold accounted for more than $600 million of the expenditures:
marketing, sales, and administration expenses were in excess of $420 million, advertising and pro-
motion expenses were nearly $300 million, and research and development expenses were close to
$50 million.
The $680 million analgesic market was divided into two types of pain-relievers: aspirin and ace-
taminophen. Aspirin-based products, such as the market leader Bayer Aspirin, distributed by Sterling
Drug Company, and Bufferin and Excedrin, both distributed by Bristol-Myers, comprised 90% of the
analgesic market. Most of the aspirin-based products were proprietary drugs and were typically mar-
keted with heavy consumer advertising and extensive point-of-purchase displays. Bristol-Myers spent
more than $30 million advertising Bufferin and Excedrin in 1974 (see Exhibits 1, 2 for examples of
print advertisements). In contrast, acetaminophen-based analgesics, initially available only by pre-
scription, were advertised primarily to medical professionals.

Quantitative Easing in the Great Recession
On October 29, 2008, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) concluded its eighth
meeting since the start of the Great Recession eleven months earlier. Continuing its recent
pattern, the FOMC voted to cut its target federal funds rate by another 50 basis points, to 1%. Yet
despite the lowering of this rate from 4.25% since the start of the year (see Exhibit 1), a variety
of economic indicators continued to paint a grim picture. Indeed, the situation appeared to be
worsening.
The chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, now faced a daunting prospect. As
a professor of economics at Princeton, Bernanke had studied a set of tools that a central bank
could employ if its policy rate were to be constrained by the zero lower bound. Prominent among
these was a tool known as “quantitative easing,” or QE, a policy of making large purchases of
financial assets. These purchases increased the quantity of money in the economy, hence the
name quantitative easing. In his academic writings, Bernanke had advocated QE as a policy for
Japan, where since the late 1990s the Bank of Japan (BoJ) had reduced its short-term interest rate
to near zero.1 With the federal funds rate at 1%, the Federal Reserve likely would soon find itself
in the same position as the BoJ, namely at the zero lower bound. Bernanke would get a chance to
put his academic theories into practice.
The Great Recession and Financial Crisis
What would later be called the Great Recession began officially in December 2007 as a
typical economic downturn associated with a spike in oil prices and a decline in home prices, but
it quickly became a severe recession due to links between the housing and financial markets. As
home prices across the United States and other countries fell in 2006 and 2007, foreclosure rates
began to rise; this in turn rendered almost worthless many previously AAA-rated mortgage-
backed securities (MBS) that derived the.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. - 10. IDENTIFICATION: The patient is a 15-year-old male of Native American descent who resides at home with his mother and 6-year-old brother. He is seen for the psychiatric evaluation on an inpatient crisis unit. Collateral information was obtained from the patient’s mother. CHIEF COMPLAINT: “I am feeling like I’m going crazy” HISTORY OF CHIEF COMPLAINT: Patient reports that he intentionally cut his leg at school yesterday before gym class. He realized that he would not be able to participate in class because he could not control the bleeding of the cuts. He went to the nurse and she referred him to the ER for admission. The ER provider admitted him to the acute psychiatric unit as he was at risk of harming himself due to suicidal ideation. He reports that he harmed himself by cutting as he was feeling abandoned by his boyfriend. He states that he is not emotionally supportive. He reports that self-injurious behavior began 10 months ago, and he uses a disposable razor to cut his upper arm or forearm. He reports problems with sleep onset. He reports low self-esteem and low energy level. He endorsed a history of two prior
- 11. suicide attempts by taking a palm-full of acetaminophen; the most recent attempt was 2 months ago. He did not report his attempt denies serious adverse effects. His last suicidal ideation due to pressure of getting good grades and low self-esteem. He used to participate in the school band but stopped attending rehearsals about 2 months ago because he was no longer interested. Patient’s mother expressed frustration and difficulty understanding why the patient treats her disrespectfully when she gives the patient everything the patient wants, such as clothing and money to go out with friends. The patient’s mother acknowledged that she works a lot and is infrequently at home, but stated that when she tries to spend time with the patient and express interest in his life, the patient shuts her out or states that he does not have time to spend with her because she needs to finish his homework. Patient’s mother additionally expresses confusion about why the patient behaves so differently than she did at that age, reporting that he was expected to be respectful and comply with her mother’s requests.
- 12. PAST PSYCHIATRIC HISTORY: No prior psychotherapy or trials of psychiatric medication. MEDICAL HISTORY: Multiple wounds noted on patient’s right upper arm, which appear to be healing. No known allergies. No acute or chronic medication conditions. Review of systems is negative. Patient appears to be average height and weight. He denies any recent changes in weight. HISTORY OF DRUG OR ALCOHOL ABUSE: No alcohol use. States that he tried marijuana once 3 months ago. Denies use of any other illicit substances. © 2020, Walden University FAMILY HISTORY: Patient’s parents were both born in the US. The patient was born in the United States. Patient reports that her parents got divorced when she was 5 years old. His father currently lives in Los Angeles and he has minimal contact with him. Family history of mental illness denied. Personal History Perinatal: No known perinatal complications.

Childhood/Adolescence: The patient attends the local private high school where he used to get good grades in her classes, mostly As and Bs; however, he states her grades have declined recently and she is in danger of failing several classes. He reports recent loss of close friends due to interpersonal conflict. He identifies as pansexual and is currently dating a male peer. They have been dating for the past 2 months. He states that she would like to have sex with him, but he is not ready yet. TRAUMA/ABUSE HISTORY: Patient denies trauma or abuse history. Mental Status Examination Appearance: Good grooming and hygiene. Cooperative. Behavior and psychomotor activity: no increased or decreased psychomotor agitation. Sits quietly in chair. Consciousness: Alert. Orientation: To person, place, time. Memory: Not formally assessed but appears to be intact based on patient’s ability to relate details from the past.
- 14. Concentration and attention: Not formally assessed, but no indication of abnormalities. Visuospatial ability: Not formally assessed. Abstract thought: Intact. Intellectual functioning: Appears to be above average. Speech and language: Quiet volume, regular rate and rhythm. Perceptions: No evidence of perceptual disturbance. Patient denies auditory and visual hallucinations. Thought processes: Coherent and goal directed. Thought content: Distressed about peer relationships. Suicidality or homicidality: Denies current suicidal or homicidal ideation; however, reports suicidal thoughts yesterday on the way to the hospital.
