Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

5. In these three last drawings we can observe that green is mixed with warm colours.
Why can this happen?
There are several possible interpretations:

They did not pay enough attention to the explanations.
Colour green in Asturias, our region, is present everywhere. Warm colours are
supossed to give us the sense of heat, comfort and summer and all the prairies
and valleys are beautiful green in summer. So they may have just interpreted this
familiar colour with the warmth of their region.
They wanted to be creative and put a cold element on their drawings.
Fortunately, we are not here to evaluate and mark these pieces of art depending on how
right they are using warm and cold colours.
Children chose whether to interpret lines and shapes with colours and they did beautiful
compositions and combinations of colours that look fantastic on our window!
Of course, they have to learn and clearly distinguish warm and cold colours, but they
will learn by doing and observing... they are only 7 years old!!!
I’m impatient to get more and cover the whole glass!!
