convey to the audience and allow them to fully grasp 
the many concepts throughout the play.

Why these Actors? 
Each actor chosen exemplifies some characteristics of each 
character in the play. These well known actors will enhance the 
play through various experience and like personalities.
Lights, Camera, 
ACTIONNNNN! ! 
While this play captures the era of the 
1500’s it’s important that we captivate the 
detailed elements of this time. Lighting is an 
essential part of a play that often sets the 
tone for the play from very bright lights to 
no lights allowing the audience to engage in 
that moment. The portray different moods 
throughout the play that depict the various 
light settings. This image captures both the 
light and dark scenery throughout the play.
Let’s Play Dress Up! 
Clothing is not only an essential part of our day life but also in ACTING. 
Each character has a role that must be portrayed outwardly through good 
acting and great clothing. During this is era it was important that every 
aspect was implement through the great work of styling.

Set Design

Act One, Scene 1 
• Where: The Palace 
• Who: Hippolyta, Theseus, Egeus, Hermia, Demetrius, and Lsyander. 
• What: As Hippolyta and Theseus sit on their pedestal and plan their 
wedding, Egeus approaches them with the problem of his daughter not 
wanting to marry Demetrius but instead Lysander. Theseus warns her to 
make her mind up before the day of his wedding.

Picture 2: Here, Hermia is introduced to 
Theseus 
Picture 3: Theseus explains to Hermia the laws 
of not abiding by her father’s demands. 
Mood: serious 
Color: Orange symbolizes communication. Pertaining to: 
Egeus, orange offers recovery from grief. 
Demetrius: orange offers enthusiasm as he is hopeful to 
win over Hermia. 
Hermia: Orange represents insincererity 
Locale: Duke Theseus Palace
Act One, Scene 2 
• Where: Quince’s House 
• Who: Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Snout, Starveling 
• What: Group of men meet to practice a play for Theseus and Hippolyta’s 
wedding. Peter assigns everyone their characters, Bottom insists he plays 
someone else. Peter reassures him that his character is best for him. They 
conclude to meet another time in the woods to rehearse.

make input.

Locale: Quince’s House
Act Two, Scene One 
• Where: The Woods 
• Who: Fairy, Puck, Oberon, Titania, Demetrius, and Helena 
• What: Confrontation arises between Oberon and Titania as he wants her 
Indian prince. Titania refuses and Oberon seeks revenge by getting Puck to 
find a flower that will make Titania fall in love with anything she first lays her 
eyes upon when waking up from sleep.

Tittania and is shown in isolation as he 
thinks of a master plan.. 
Picture 9: Here, Oberon sends Puck to find the Flower. 
Mood: Subtle 
Locale: The woods
Act Two, Scene Two 
• Where: Woods 
• Who: Titania, Oberon, Lysander, Hermia, Puck, Helena, Demetrius. 
• What: Titania falls asleep, and Oberon walks in and squeezes the flower on 
Titania’s eyelids. In this same scene, Helena chases after Demetrius while he 
searches for Lysander and Hermia. Puck mistakenly puts the flower juice on 
Lysanders eyelid. Helena stumbles upon Lysander. He awakes and falls in 
love with Helena.

Mood: Anxious 
• Oberon impatiently wants Titania to fall asleep. 
• Helena pursues Demetrius 
• Lysander pursues Helena claiming his new found interest in 
her 
Locale: Woods
Act Three, Scene One 
• Where: Woods 
• Who: Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Snout, Starveling, and Fairies( 
Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, Mustardseed). 
• What: The men meet to rehearse their play again. Bottom is being outspoken 
again, Puck irritated turns Bottoms’ head into an ass. Everyone becomes 
scared and leaves. Titania wakes up and sees Bottom who she falls in love 
with.

changes.

Bottom, immediately falls in love. 
Mood: Serious and incredulous 
• Puck using magic to turn him into a donkey. 
• Titania in love with a donkey 
Locale: woods
Act Three, Scene Two 
• Where: Woods 
• Who: Oberon, Puck, Demetrius, Hermia, Lysander, and Helena. 
• What: Puck informs Oberon about the Titania situation. Oberon finds out 
that Puck put the flower juice on the wrong person and demands him to fix 
it. Hermia is weary about where Lysander is.
Picture 17: Hermia is sad because she doesn’t know the 
whereabouts of Lysander. 
Picture 18: Puck tells Oberon how he 
accidentally used the love potion on the 
wrong person.
Act Four, Scene One 
• Where: Another part of the woods. 
• Who: Lysander, Demetrius, Theseus, Hippolyta, Egeus, Helena, and Hermia, 
Oberon, Bottom, and Puck. 
• What: Oberon gets Titania to give up the Indian boy, he then undoes the 
love spell. Puck also undoes the spell for Bottom original head back. Theseus 
later enters with Hippolyta and Egeus to where lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, 
and Helena are sleeping demanding the end conclusion of their choices. 
They don’t remember. They all then go to have a wedding feast.

• Everything goes well in Act 4, Scene 1. 
Locale: the woods and the Palace
Act Five, Scene One 
• Where: Palace of Theseus 
• Who: Theseus, Hippolyta, Philostrate, Lysander, Demetrius, Bottom, Puck, 
Oberon, Titania, Hermia, and Helena. 
• What: Everyone gathers around. The men finally gather to perform their 
performance. The noblesmen joke at their performance.

• Three type of Characters (The Athenians, The Fairies, and The Mechanicals) 
• One of Shakespeare’s most popular plays 
• Costumes in this play I would say is Historical

• Make-Up to fit each actor/actress

• Each character has there own make up!
Each character has a different wig. Here are some examples of wigs that 
were used in the play Midsummer Night’s Dream. Each wig/hairstyle is to 
fit each character and the role they played.
• Oberon Lysander 
• Titania Thesesus 
• Puck Hippolyta 
• Hermia Egeus 
• Demetrius Nick Bottom 
• Helena Peter Quince 
Each character wear’s a different costume in this play.

back in the 1500s. This 
outfit was designed

and Hermia is wearing 
similar clothes 
as the fairies with 
flowers around her 
head.

Act 1, Scene 1 
For the opening scene the lights would be formed into a chandelier to provide a warm, rich and 
home feel to the stage. While Thesus and Philostrate are having a discussion about their 
wedding the warmness of the lights will create an intimate feel as well. A few strobe lights will 
be in center stage stacked on top each other to make this chandelier look
ACT 1, Scene 1 
As Egegus, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius enters to speak with 
Thesus the spotlights will enter to create a seriousness as well as 
letting the audience know the mood is changing and who the focus 
is on.
ACT 1, Scene 2 
When Quince, Sung, Bottom, Flute, Snut and Staveling enter the room Picture 1’s 
lights will be shining down on them and Picture 2’s lights will be shining on the left 
and right side. The gentlemen are discussing what they are going to do for the ducth 
and dutchess’s wedding so this is are is very bright so they can see what is going on as 
well as the audience.

Act 2, Scene 1 
Confrontation arises between Oberon and Titania as he wants her Indian prince. 
Titania refuses and Oberon seeks revenge by getting Puck to find a flower that 
will make Titania fall in love with anything she first lays her eyes upon when 
waking up from sleep. 
This shows how dark it was because Puck was doing something sneaky 
and the purple indicates the love Titania will feel when she awakes.
Act 2 Scene 2 
Titania falls asleep, and Oberon walks in and squeezes the flower on 
Titania’s eyelids. In this same scene, Helena chases after Demetrius 
while he searches for Lysander and Hermia. Puck mistakenly puts the 
flower juice on Lysanders eyelid. Helena stumbles upon Lysander. He 
awakes and falls in love with Helena. 
The color changes to red in this scene to indicate that Puck made a 
mistake with the with the flower potion.
Act 3 Scene 1 
Puck informs Oberon about the Titania situation. Oberon finds out that Puck 
put the flower juice on the wrong person and demands him to fix it. Hermia is

  • 6. Why these Actors? Each actor chosen exemplifies some characteristics of each character in the play. These well known actors will enhance the play through various experience and like personalities.
  • 7. Lights, Camera, ACTIONNNNN! ! While this play captures the era of the 1500’s it’s important that we captivate the detailed elements of this time. Lighting is an essential part of a play that often sets the tone for the play from very bright lights to no lights allowing the audience to engage in that moment. The portray different moods throughout the play that depict the various light settings. This image captures both the light and dark scenery throughout the play.
  • 8. Let’s Play Dress Up! Clothing is not only an essential part of our day life but also in ACTING. Each character has a role that must be portrayed outwardly through good acting and great clothing. During this is era it was important that every aspect was implement through the great work of styling.

Act One, Scene 1 • Where: The Palace • Who: Hippolyta, Theseus, Egeus, Hermia, Demetrius, and Lsyander. • What: As Hippolyta and Theseus sit on their pedestal and plan their wedding, Egeus approaches them with the problem of his daughter not wanting to marry Demetrius but instead Lysander. Theseus warns her to make her mind up before the day of his wedding.
  • 13. Picture 1: Theseus and Hippolyta sit on their throne Picture 2: Here, Hermia is introduced to Theseus Picture 3: Theseus explains to Hermia the laws of not abiding by her father’s demands. Mood: serious Color: Orange symbolizes communication. Pertaining to: Egeus, orange offers recovery from grief. Demetrius: orange offers enthusiasm as he is hopeful to win over Hermia. Hermia: Orange represents insincererity Locale: Duke Theseus Palace
  • 14. Act One, Scene 2 • Where: Quince’s House • Who: Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Snout, Starveling • What: Group of men meet to practice a play for Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding. Peter assigns everyone their characters, Bottom insists he plays someone else. Peter reassures him that his character is best for him. They conclude to meet another time in the woods to rehearse.

  • 16. Act Two, Scene One • Where: The Woods • Who: Fairy, Puck, Oberon, Titania, Demetrius, and Helena • What: Confrontation arises between Oberon and Titania as he wants her Indian prince. Titania refuses and Oberon seeks revenge by getting Puck to find a flower that will make Titania fall in love with anything she first lays her eyes upon when waking up from sleep.
  • 17. Picture 7: Where conflict rises with Oberon and Titania Picture 8: Oberon becomes furious with Tittania and is shown in isolation as he thinks of a master plan.. Picture 9: Here, Oberon sends Puck to find the Flower. Mood: Subtle Locale: The woods

Act Two, Scene Two • Where: Woods • Who: Titania, Oberon, Lysander, Hermia, Puck, Helena, Demetrius. • What: Titania falls asleep, and Oberon walks in and squeezes the flower on Titania’s eyelids. In this same scene, Helena chases after Demetrius while he searches for Lysander and Hermia. Puck mistakenly puts the flower juice on Lysanders eyelid. Helena stumbles upon Lysander. He awakes and falls in love with Helena.

Picture 10: Titania asleep Picture 11: Helena follows Demetrius Picture 12: Lysander sleeping in woods Picture 13: Lsyander falls in love with Helena Mood: Anxious • Oberon impatiently wants Titania to fall asleep. • Helena pursues Demetrius • Lysander pursues Helena claiming his new found interest in her Locale: Woods

Act Three, Scene One • Where: Woods • Who: Quince, Snug, Bottom, Flute, Snout, Starveling, and Fairies( Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, Mustardseed). • What: The men meet to rehearse their play again. Bottom is being outspoken again, Puck irritated turns Bottoms’ head into an ass. Everyone becomes scared and leaves. Titania wakes up and sees Bottom who she falls in love with.
  • 21. Picture 14: The men meet at a woods to rehearse again Picture 15: Puck casts a spell on Bottom. Picture 16: Bottom unaware of the changes. Picture 23: Titania wakes up sees Bottom, immediately falls in love. Mood: Serious and incredulous • Puck using magic to turn him into a donkey. • Titania in love with a donkey Locale: woods
  • 22. Act Three, Scene Two • Where: Woods • Who: Oberon, Puck, Demetrius, Hermia, Lysander, and Helena. • What: Puck informs Oberon about the Titania situation. Oberon finds out that Puck put the flower juice on the wrong person and demands him to fix it. Hermia is weary about where Lysander is.
  • 23. Picture 17: Hermia is sad because she doesn’t know the whereabouts of Lysander. Picture 18: Puck tells Oberon how he accidentally used the love potion on the wrong person.

Act Four, Scene One • Where: Another part of the woods. • Who: Lysander, Demetrius, Theseus, Hippolyta, Egeus, Helena, and Hermia, Oberon, Bottom, and Puck. • What: Oberon gets Titania to give up the Indian boy, he then undoes the love spell. Puck also undoes the spell for Bottom original head back. Theseus later enters with Hippolyta and Egeus to where lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena are sleeping demanding the end conclusion of their choices. They don’t remember. They all then go to have a wedding feast.

  • 26. Act Five, Scene One • Where: Palace of Theseus • Who: Theseus, Hippolyta, Philostrate, Lysander, Demetrius, Bottom, Puck, Oberon, Titania, Hermia, and Helena. • What: Everyone gathers around. The men finally gather to perform their performance. The noblesmen joke at their performance.

This outfit was designed from back in Thomas Jefferson Days. Lysander is wearing Athen clothing, Demetrius is also wearing Athen Clothing, and Hermia is wearing similar clothes as the fairies with flowers around her head.

  • 36. Act 1, Scene 1 For the opening scene the lights would be formed into a chandelier to provide a warm, rich and home feel to the stage. While Thesus and Philostrate are having a discussion about their wedding the warmness of the lights will create an intimate feel as well. A few strobe lights will be in center stage stacked on top each other to make this chandelier look
  • 37. ACT 1, Scene 1 As Egegus, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius enters to speak with Thesus the spotlights will enter to create a seriousness as well as letting the audience know the mood is changing and who the focus is on.

ACT 1, Scene 2 When Quince, Sung, Bottom, Flute, Snut and Staveling enter the room Picture 1’s lights will be shining down on them and Picture 2’s lights will be shining on the left and right side. The gentlemen are discussing what they are going to do for the ducth and dutchess’s wedding so this is are is very bright so they can see what is going on as well as the audience. Picture 1 Picture 2
  • 39. Act 2, Scene 1 Confrontation arises between Oberon and Titania as he wants her Indian prince. Titania refuses and Oberon seeks revenge by getting Puck to find a flower that will make Titania fall in love with anything she first lays her eyes upon when waking up from sleep. This shows how dark it was because Puck was doing something sneaky and the purple indicates the love Titania will feel when she awakes.
  • 40. Act 2 Scene 2 Titania falls asleep, and Oberon walks in and squeezes the flower on Titania’s eyelids. In this same scene, Helena chases after Demetrius while he searches for Lysander and Hermia. Puck mistakenly puts the flower juice on Lysanders eyelid. Helena stumbles upon Lysander. He awakes and falls in love with Helena. The color changes to red in this scene to indicate that Puck made a mistake with the with the flower potion.
