The Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, is a trade agreement
between 12 nations around the Pacific Rim. American
proponents of the TPP laud its elimination of certain taxes and
trade barriers. When the agreement is ratified, American
business owners and farmers will be able to export their
American-made goods to the other 11 partnering nations with
significantly fewer restrictions.

3.  This expansive trade agreement is further reaching than the
WTO. Not limited to the trade of physical goods, the TPP
includes provisions for various services, including new
regulations for environmental, labor, and intellectual and digital
property standards.
Opponents of the trade agreement have expressed concerns
regarding the power it could give to large corporations over
individual consumers. Others are concerned with new
regulations governing intellectual and digital property rights,
saying they do not offer enough protection. Ratification is not
likely occur until after the 2016 election cycle has concluded.
