Currently, Burnham Wood Charter School District oversees the DaVinci School for Science & the Arts, which received a Silver Medal rating from US News & World Report in 2016. 2. INTRODUCTION
 Burnham Wood Charter School District is an award-winning school district based
in El Paso, Texas. Currently, Burnham Wood Charter School District oversees
the DaVinci School for Science & the Arts, which received a Silver Medal rating
from US News & World Report in 2016. In addition to operating a curriculum
based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) subjects, the
DaVinci School functions under three core tenets.
1. The Da Vinci Model – This model espouses the philosophy that all students
are capable learners and that the school itself should take responsibility for
student education. As such, the DaVinci School avoids lowering educational
expectations, thus preparing students for further educational purusits.
2. The 80 Percent Rule – This rule states that if students perceive themselves
to be successful 80 percent of the time, they will find the motivation to keep
pushing towards success. As such, the DaVinci School places realistic and
challenging expectations on all students.
3. The O + R = Ph + Gg Equation – This equation notes that the combination of
a student’s responsibility to the world and his or her obligation to learn leads to
benefits in the greater good and personal happiness.
