The Tech on the Horizon Update
1. The Tech on the Horizon Update
Business does not get disrupted because of new technology. Business gets disrupted, because Executive Decision-
Makers in the business, are unprepared for new technology and its impact.
From the Experience of Harish “The Singapore Futurist” Shah
Since 2013, every time Harish has spoken to Corporate Leaders about a new ground-breaking or game-changing
technological development, he has often been met with denial, of the reality, of timelines. He has often heard
subjective assertions in responses, of a technology being decades away from reality, when in fact, that technology,
would already well be in the process of becoming a present-day reality.
As we begin the period of the 2020s, autonomous vehicles are already operating on roads around the world,
moving goods and commuters. Robots are autonomously answering to room service requests in hotels. Consumer
Wearable Devices, including Smart Glasses, are becoming increasingly commonplace.
As Technology continues to evolve, bringing new products into reality at a rapid pace, that were once only possible
in fantasy, consumer behaviour, preferences, expectations, habits and needs evolve in tandem. To remain
relevant, businesses, need to evolve in tandem as well.
For the Senior Leadership
This is a talk in which Harish “The Singapore Futurist” Shah, Singapore’s first local born Professional Futurist, will
update Senior Leaders within the organisation, on new technologies on the horizon, that will likely impact their
consumers, their industry and their business.
No two sessions, of this talk, may be the same, because of the rapid pace of technological progress, development
and diffusion in the contemporary period. As new technologies see commercialisation or diffusion, and new
technologies begin to emerge on the horizon, this talk, will evolve, to better serve its purpose, for the intended
audience.
Purpose
➢ Awareness of what is emerging, plausibly inevitable, and its impact potential, aids in effective, strategic long-
term planning
➢ Preparedness for technology before it reaches diffusion and commercialisation helps organisations avoid
disruption, and ensure continuity
➢ Being able to capitalise on new technologies, before others do, ensures competitive advantage
